Tropical Chia Parfait

One of our MJF team members recently went to Bali and came back with so much fun, plant-based inspiration! This Tropical Chia Parfait was a big hit with us and we think it will be with you too! Chia pudding, mango and berry compote are layered to create a fun breakfast, a nutritious snack, or a refreshing dessert as the weather warms. It’s healthy, filling and an excellent source of protein. And the best part is how easy it is to make! Soak chia seeds in Mad Mylk, heat berry compote and dice mangoes. Layer it in a glass and garnish. Boom. Healthy breakfast, snack or dessert!

3 tbsp chia seeds
1 cup Mad Mylk
1 mango, peeled & diced
Mint leaf, for garnish

Triple Berry Jam:
1/2 cup fresh strawberries
1/2 cup fresh raspberries
1/2 cup fresh blackberries
1 tbsp honey
1 tsp vanilla extract

1. Stir the chia seeds into Mad Mylk and refrigerate for at least one hour.

2. While the chia pudding is setting combine berries, honey, and vanilla extract in a small saucepan, and heat over medium high heat. Use a whisk and mash everything up, cook down for 2-3 minutes until just warmed through and a little saucy.

3. In glasses or jars, layer it. We chose berry compote, yogurt mixture, mango, yogurt mixture, then berry compote but it’s up to you. Top with a slice of mango and a mint leaf!

Mad Mylk Egg Nog

We know the holidays are the most wonderful time of the year- and with that can come a lot of decadence and also (fun and totally worth it) over-indulgence. We wanted to provide you with a few, simple drink recipes to keep your holidays balanced, merry and bright.

Traditional eggnog is filled with sugar, heavy cream, and egg yolk, which equals tons of saturated fat and cholesterol – yikes! Of course you can buy vegan eggnog in stores, but most of them contain loads of preservatives or refined sugar. This eggnog recipe is made from our Mad Mylk, which uses whole plant based foods and natural sugars from medjool dates. No unhealthy additives, just fresh and festive holiday fun!

This thick and creamy drink can be enjoyed straight up or spiked. Enjoy this elevated dairy-free, egg-free twist on the classic.

16 ounces MJF Mad Mylk
6 ounces coconut mylk
3/4 tsp rum extract
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
Ground nutmeg & cinnamon sticks for garnish
2 ounce rum (optional)

Place all ingredients in a blender or whisk vigorously for a few minutes until completely combined and a little foamy and frothy.
Fill your glass and add ice, stir well. Garnish with nutmeg and cinnamon sticks.

This drink nourishes you on a cellular level for optimal overall health.
When we created our intentional and purpose-driven recipes, we wanted to create an all green drink, that would be deeply nourishing for all the organs and cells in your body. When we say no fruit, we mean, no fruit (yes that includes lemon),no ginger – nothing but green goodness. So if you can’t have any sugar or fruits, no fear the Green Mama is here to nourish you body and soul.
The second you take a sip of the Green Mama you will feel the energy of the earth nourishing your whole body with raw and potent plant power, this is the real deal.

The digestive system has been inching its way into the spotlight, as something people need to pay more attention to. There’s a good reason for that, your gut is deeply connected to many other parts of your body, including your brain, immune system and metabolism. If your digestion system is out of whack, there’s a good chance your whole system is going to suffer. We take our digestive health very seriously. That is why we created our REVIVE drinks. Not only do they revive your digestive system, but in turn revive your whole body.
Our Sweet Harvest is a sweet and smooth combination of fruits and vegetables; a mellow green drink that is packed with enzymes, vitamins and nutrients. All the ingredients in this drink were thoughtfully selected for their ability to help aid in digestion.
Cucumber can help control stomach acids, while fennel may help relieve intestinal aches. Green apples are known to reactivate good stomach bacteria, promoting optimal gut health. Parsley acts as a mild and natural diuretic, helping to relieve bloating. Pears are anti-inflammatory, helping to soothe the digestive tract. They are also an excellent source of pectin, a crucial soluble fiber, that is retained when juicing.
Our Bonfire Cider is a raw cider that is a complex blend of sweet and spicy that will be sure to tantalize the tastebuds, while boosting your immunity. 80% of your immune system is located in your gut, so digestive health and immunity go hand-in-hand.
The Bonfire Cider is loaded up with plenty of potent anti-inflammatory agents such as ginger, turmeric, cinnamon and cayenne. They don’t just act as powerful immunity booster, but they can help activate digestive juices, while soothing the stomach. Ginger is also known to be nature’s anti-nausea medicine, great for jet setters who are unfortunately prone to motion sickness. Apple cider vinegar is a probiotic, supplying your digestive system with good bacteria. It also aids in breaking down food properly, which can help cleanse and repair your digestive system.
Revive your drive, boost your immunity and give your digestive system a little love with on (or both!) of our delicious and powerful REVIVE drinks, Sweet Harvest and Bonfire Cider.

Deodorant Paste

You’ve probably heard buzzing here and there about how chemical deodorants and antiperspirants are basically the devil. Dramatic, right? Wrong. Chemical-laden deodorants and antiperspirants are at the top of our ‘no-go’ list.
Our skin is our largest organ. It absorbs everything that we put on it. It’s bad enough to put chemicals, such as aluminum, parabens, propylene glycol and phthalates (all commonly found in your average deodorant), on a highly sensitive area such as your armpits. But then to make matters worse you clog up those pores and trap in all the chemicals.
Our bodies don’t do anything by accident. Everything has a purpose and function. We are meant to sweat. It is our body’s way of purging toxins. If we are preventing our body from naturally detoxing, where are those toxins going? We are sending them right back into the surrounding glands and the lymphatic system, and trapping them there.
We aren’t anti-deodorant here. We are very pro-smelling fresh and clean, but there is no need to do it with chemicals. Let mother nature help you out. We know it may be hard to transition from your current deodorant, but our 100% vegan, organic and all-natural Deodorant Paste is both powerful and effective (we swear!) It utilizes vegetable powder and coconut oil to absorb moisture and stop odor-causing bacteria in its tracks. Lavender, lemon and bergamot oils ensure long-lasting and legit freshness. Skeptics, get ready to believe.
The combination of baking soda, arrowroot and coconut oil creates a paste-like cream that is easy to apply, leaving no chalky white streaks on your clothing. Coconut oil is a powerful anti-bacterial and anti-fungal agent. Baking soda helps to neutralize odor, while arrowroot helps with moisture control and absorption. Lavender, lemon and bergamot oil also contain anti-bacterial properties and just happen to create an insanely refreshing blend that is both crisp and intoxicating.
Give our Deodorant Paste a try. No chemicals, no aluminum and no smelliness: this blend is safe, effective and will leave you feeling subtly clean-scented all day.

9 Ways to Raise Your Vibration

RYV Blog
Everything in the universe, including ourselves, is made up of energy. We are all vibrating at different frequencies. With every thought or action, we are either lifting the world up with our positive energy or polluting it with negative energy. Consider how this not only effects you and your mood, but the world around you and the universe as a whole. We are talking big, no, huge picture stuff over here.
We need to be careful of what we are putting out into the world. What we put out, is what we get back – law of attraction at play here. So take a moment to notice the kind of vibes you’re putting out and if that’s what you want your contribution to the world to be.
Being conscious about raising your vibration will lead to a lighter, happier and more vibrant you. You will find yourself living in alignment with the universe, instead of fighting it. Things of equally high vibration will be attracted to you and you will find yourself surrounded by things that keep raising you up.
Here are our top 9 ways to raise your vibration:

1. Meditate

You’ve heard it before, but seriously don’t underestimate the power of mediation. Taking a few minutes, whether it’s in the morning, a quick break in the afternoon or before you go to bed at night, will make a world of difference in your energy levels. To start, carve out 5 minutes somewhere in your day and try to stick to that same time every day. Just sit, breathe and simply be. Soon your mind will become clearer and you will become calmer and more centered.

2. Smile

Smiling might be one of the easiest ways to raise your vibration. Smiling sends a message to your brain that you are happy, releasing those high vibe endorphins. Anytime you notice your energy lacking and you need a little boost – just flash those pearly whites. Sporting a big grin doesn’t just make you feel good, but it elicits good feelings in those around you. It’s a win-win.

3. Fuel your body

Food has it’s own energy as well. If you want to raise your vibrations, you can’t do it with artificial, processed and pesticide-filled low vibrational food. You need to nourish your body with clean and wholesome high vibe food – organic fruits and veggies, nutrient-dense cold pressed juice, dark chocolate or a handful of raw nuts. Pay attention to how your body feels after you eat certain foods. You will begin to notice what energizes you and what depletes you.

4. Nourish your brain

Pay attention to what you feed your mind. The books you read, the shows you watch, the music you listen to, the conversations you engage in, even the Instagram accounts you scroll through – all of these seep into your subconscious. Be aware of what you are opening yourself up to. Spend time filling your mind with positive and intellectual material to raise your vibration.

5. Live in the flow

Life is full of unexpected twists and turns. Most things in life you really can’t control. The more you learn to go with the flow, instead of fighting it – the way happier you will be. When something doesn’t go your way, you’re stuck in traffic, someone’s behavior is irritating you or you stub your toe – just shrug it off and keep on keeping on. There’s no need to let the small stuff lower your vibration.

6. Dance

Turn up the music and let loose. Move your body however you heart desires – seriously get weird with it. Just close your eyes and let go. This kind of intuitive dancing allows you to tap into a more primal side of yourself, strengthen the right side of your brain which is your more creative side and release any stuck energy or emotions. It pushes out those low vibes and creates more ease in your life. Go ahead and sing too if that is what you’re being called to do.

7. Grounding

Raising your vibration also requires you to let go of negative and unwanted energy that is holding you down. A great way to do this is by “grounding”. Go outside, kick off your shoes (and socks) and just plant your bare feet on the ground. Take time to reconnect with Mother Nature and let her work her magic. This practice has been known to have a calming and balancing effect on people.

8. Left nostril breathing

Blocking your right nostril with the thumb of your right hand, take twenty-six deep and long breaths in and out through your left nostril. This kind of breathing stimulates the right side of your brain. It helps reduce stress and anxiety that can be caused by the over analytical left side of your brain and promote feelings of relaxation and rejuvenation.

9. Day Dream

That’s right pretend you’re back in high school math and your teacher is going on about the Pythagorean theorem. Just look out the window and zone out, without the fear of getting called on. Daydreaming is a wonderful opportunity to take a time-out to visualize your ideal future life: what it feels like when you wake up in the morning; what a day in your dream job is like; what it looks like when you walk into the front door of your home. This practice helps you raise your vibration and become in alignment with the things you most desire, leading the way for the law of attraction to take place.

7 Tips for an Ayurvedic Inspired Spring Detox

ASD blog

Spring is a naturally cleansing time. It’s a time for renewal and fresh starts. The days are getting longer and warmer, filling us with a new level of energy. We are ready to shed some of our winter layers, flush out the build up of toxins and create a renewed sense of balance in our lives.
An Ayurvedic cleanse focuses on rebuilding and strengthening your digestive fire. It also helps boost your natural mechanism to eliminate the toxins that have accumulated in your body.
Following these seven Ayurvedic tips will allow you to gently detox on a daily basis.
1. Oil pull

Oil pulling allows you to extract the toxins that travel from your stomach to your mouth overnight while you are sleeping. First thing in the morning, put a spoonful of oil (coconut is our preferred option, but you can use other variations such as sesame or olive oil) in your mouth and swish it around. You can start with 5 minutes and work your way up to 20. Afterwards, spit it out in the trash.

2. Lemon Water

It’s important to stay hydrated throughout the day, but you really want to get things off to a good start with a cup of warm lemon water in the morning. This will stimulate digestion and the release of toxins, while providing you with a metabolic lift. Add in a pinch of cayenne and a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to up the ante.

3. Ghee

Ghee is a form of clarified butter used in Ayurvedic cooking. Ghee is easily digestible, stimulates the production of stomach acid and increases the absorption of nutrients. It also helps with elimination of fat-soluble toxins.

Turmeric is Ayurvedic gold. This spice provides countless health benefits. It is a powerful anti-septic, anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory agent. It aids in digestion and increases the production of enzymes that neutralize free radicals and improve liver detoxification. Click here for some inspiration on how to get more turmeric into your diet.

5. Bitter Greens

Bitter greens are a great way to boost liver detoxification and strengthen digestion. They promote a secretion of gastric juices in the digestive tract and help the liver absorb nutrients while filtering out toxins. Some of our favorite bitter greens are arugula, dandelion greens, kale, mustard greens and watercress. Check out our Green Mama for some bitter greens in a bottle.

6. Triphala

Triphala is an ancient Ayurvedic herb. It’s a synergistic blend of of three dried Indian super fruits: amalaki, haritaki and bibhitaki. It is referred to as a “toxin scraper”. It helps extract the toxins out of the intestines and eliminate them from the body. You can take it in capsule, powder or tea form.

7. Light Dinner

Your digestive system is considerably weaker in the evening. It is very important that after a day of following all of these amazing detoxifying techniques that you finish your day with a light dinner. You don’t want to bombard your digestive system right before you are about to unwind and go to sleep.

Pre + Post Cleanse Meals

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset
Although you may have signed up for a 3 day cleanse, it’s not just about those three days. The days leading up to and following your cleanse are just as important as the cleanse itself.
A few days before your cleanse, you are going to want to slowly start cutting out meats, refined starches (bread, white rice and pasta), dairy products, sugar, caffeine, alcohol and processed foods. You’ve got to get your body warmed up and ready for game time.
The same goes for your post cleanse meals. You may feel ready to take on the world, but you’re not quite ready to take on solid foods. Just as you transition them out before your cleanse you will need to reintroduce them slowly back in after your cleanse.
Your meals should be clean and simple, but still delicious. We recommend salads, fresh fruit, smoothies, steamed veggies, soups and small amounts of whole grains
Here are some tasty recipes that you can whip up to ease into a cleanse or come off of one. This way you won’t shock your digestive system and you will be able to get the most out of your cleanse.

8 Tips for Having the Best Cleanse

Ahh! Spring is in the air. Time for new beginnings. Deciding to do a juice cleanse is a great way to honor this period of rebirth. Our cleanses are designed to give your digestive system a much needed vacation, while nourishing you at a cellular level with nutrient-dense juices. Our raw juices are jam packed with enzymes, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients and antioxidants – giving your body everything it needs and more.

You may be thinking a juice cleanse seems simple enough- you just drink juice for a few days. Well it’s a little more complex than that. If you’re going to do a juice cleanse, you want to do it right.
Here are some tips to help make sure you are getting the most out of your cleanse and to ensure it is a rejuvenating and empowering experience.

1. Prepare your body

The days leading up to your cleanse are just as important as the cleanse itself. You don’t want to shock your system. You will want to slowly start cutting out meats, refined starches (bread, white rice and pasta), dairy products, sugar, processed foods, alcohol and caffeine at least 3 days prior to your cleanse. It will also help to start subbing in one juice a day as a meal replacement. Get your digestive system acquainted with the juice before you embark on an exclusive relationship with it. Click here for pre-cleanse meal inspiration.

We can’t stress this enough. You may being thinking ‘stay hydrated? All I’m doing is drinking liquids’. Well, on top of your juices you should really be drinking at least 8 cups of water a day. We know that is a lot of liquids, but your body will thank you later. Start your day with a cup of warm lemon water and then drink at least one cup of water between each juice. The juices will do the detoxing and the nourishing and the water will help subside headaches and hunger.

3. Release the toxins

Cleansing pushes the toxins that are stored in your body into your bloodstream, so it is important that you activate the right organs to eliminate these toxins from your body. Try dry brushing and exfoliating before a warm shower, or better yet an epsom salt bath. Treat yourself to a spa day – sweat it out in the sauna or get a massage. Try a little gentle exercise such as yoga or a nature walk. These are all amazing and relaxing ways to open your pores, boost circulation, stimulate your lymphatic system and help your body release toxins.

4. Rest

We know its hard to get that ideal 8 hours of sleep a night, but think of all the time you’ve saved with not having to eat- not to mention cooking or cleaning up after a meal. Getting enough rest during a cleanse is extremely important. Allow your body to devote maximum energy resources towards detoxing and healing.

5. Listen to your body

At the end of the day you know your body best. Listen to it and be aware of the signals it is sending you. Feeling very low on energy? Take a nap, or get to bed extra early. Experiencing a nagging headache? Drink more water or try a facial steam. Can’t seem to silence the hunger pains? Have a cup of veggie broth or a few slices of cucumber or celery… we promise that’s not cheating.

6. External Detoxing

Use this time to clean your space and transform it into a sanctuary where you can cleanse with peace of mind. Open the windows – let some fresh air in; vacuum the floors, change the sheets, declutter and throw out anything that is no longer serving you.

7. Digital Detox

Try to incorporate a digital detox into at least one day of your cleanse. This will allow you to declutter your mind and keep it clear during this time of rejuvenation. Try leaving your phone behind for the day or at least few hours; turn off notifications; take a break from social media; dedicate a set time to answer anything pressing and then just put it aside.

8. Manifest

When you come off of a cleanse you feel like a brand new human. You have a new level of energy, a clearer mind and a renewed sense of balance. This is the perfect opportunity to take some time to set some new intentions for yourself and manifest your desires. Your body is the most important instrument you will ever own. The good news is you just got it fine tuned and it is ready to make the most beautiful music.

5 Steps to radical self care

‘Self Care’ has become a new buzz word in the world of health and wellness. It’s not enough to just be eating your veggies, drinking those eight glasses of water, fitting in that cardio and getting enough sleep each night. You need to be taking care of yourself on a deeper level. You need to make sure you are nurturing yourself not only physically, but emotionally, mentally and spiritually.
A lot of people think of self care as indulgent trips to the spa and long bubble baths — while yes those definitely count as self care, it is more about creating time, space and energy to give yourself the love and attention you deserve.
Here are 5 tips on how to take your self care to the next level and create a renewed sense of balance:
1. Do it for yourself

Self care rituals are for you. Yes, it’s true that you need to take care of yourself to be able to care for others, but don’t let that be your reasoning for taking time for yourself. It is okay to practice self care solely to cultivate your own happiness. It’s about choosing you – recognizing your own worth and putting yourself first. You will be amazed by how empowering that can be.
2. Make it a daily practice

Self care isn’t just for those times when you are mega stressed out and you need a little extra TLC. It is something you need to practice everyday. Some days you will have the luxury of devoting more time to yourself. Other days you will need to make it a point to prioritize yourself and fit in some form of self care. It doesn’t have to be anything extravagant. It can be as simple as taking a moment to watch the sunrise or sunset; lighting some candles or using essential oils to awaken your senses and elevate your space into a sanctuary; or connecting with a loved one — anything that helps transform your daily routine into a sacred ritual.
3. Do what works for you

There is no set formula for self care- this is not a one size fits all kind of deal. If yoga and meditation aren’t your thing; don’t dedicate your time to downward dogs and mantras. Experiment with a range of activities and discover what resonates with you. It can be reading a great book just for fun, journaling, cooking a delicious meal, painting, dipping into a bubble bath, working out, enjoying a cozy cup of tea, lighting incense, listening to music or going for a walk out in nature – do whatever you heart desires, whatever brings you peace and relaxation and makes you feel renewed.
4. Work it into your existing schedule

The most daunting thing about self care can be the thought of having to find time to set aside in your busy schedule. Instead of approaching it that way, take a good look at your current schedule and be honest with yourself about where you can realistically fit in some self care practices. You can start with small acts that don’t take up too much time, but are a quick way to recharge your batteries. The more you start to make these practices a habit, the more mindful you will be with your time. Miraculously, your schedule will begin to open up and more time and space will become available to you.
5. Begin right now

That’s right, your self care journey beings now. You just took the time to read this article, so you might as well take at least a few more minutes for yourself and go do something, anything that nourishes your body and soul.

Adaptogenic Tea

Adapto- what? This word used in ancient remedies is getting re-introduced to the world of modern health and wellness. To put it simply: adaptogenic refers to a botanical that helps your body adapt. These herbs help to improve the health of your adrenal system, which is in charge of managing your body’s hormonal response to stress.
Whether it be an extreme change in temperature or altitude, jet lag, a chaotic schedule, demanding job or any other stressor- these herbs can help you strengthen your body’s ability to adjust to stress and combat fatigue in a gentle and crash-free way while also working to increase energy, stamina and endurance.
These herbs are a great secret weapon for the wanderlust-filled adventurers, adrenaline junkies, high performance athletes and competitive go-getters.

Ashwagandha has been used for thousands of years and is one of the most highly prized herbs in the ancient tradition of Ayurveda. Ashwagandha is also one of the most potent anti-stress adaptogens.

It is known to increase vitality, promote longevity, strengthen the immune system and promote balance and stability internally. It is usually recommended by herbalists for people with high blood pressure, insomnia, chronic fatigue or exhaustion – either physical or mental.

Green Tea

Another highly beneficial ingredient in our Adaptogenic Tea blend is loose green tea leaves. Green tea is abundant in antioxidants, which help fight free radicals in your body and protect your cells from damage. Green tea has also been known to improve brain function and mental clarity. It can help aid in weight loss by boosting your metabolism and increasing your ability to burn fat.

The cinnamon bark in our Adaptogenic Tea adds a little sweetness, as well as works as an anti-inflammatory agent, helping to ease muscle and joint pain. It can lower your blood sugar, triglycerides and LDL (which is your bad cholesterol). Cinnamon bark has been known to increase circulation and boost cognitive function and memory. It can also reduce cravings, while providing you with natural and sustainable energy.

We’ve also added a pinch of cayenne for a little heat. The substance capsaicin gives cayenne its spiciness… and its amazing health benefits. Cayenne pepper is an anti-inflammatory agent that helps to relieve aches and pains. It can rev up your metabolism, improve circulation and it can also stimulate the lymphatic system, which can help your body detox more efficiently.

Our Adaptogenic Tea is a choice way to start your day. Wake up your mind, energize your body and give yourself a metabolic lift, while increasing immunity and decreasing stress levels.

7 Tips for Manifesting the Life You Desire

A new year is upon us, and you know what that means – it is time for New Year’s resolutions and goal setting. This year you only need one resolution, take control of your own destiny. We are talking about co-creating your dream life.
The law of attraction is having a moment right now. People everywhere are buzzing about intentions, visualization and manifesting their dreams. The reason so many people are talking about it is because it really works. When you take the time to set intentions for your life and focus on practical ways to achieve them, the universe can’t help but support you.
Here are 7 steps for manifesting the life you desire:
1. Reflect

The hustle and bustle of the holiday season is over. Now is the time to check in with yourself. Find a quiet place where you won’t be disturbed. Sit for a few moments, take a few deep breaths and let any lingering thoughts drift away. Start off by reflecting over the past year: think about how much you have accomplished and how much you’ve learned. Remind yourself of all the goals you’ve set for yourself that you’ve already achieved. Take a second to celebrate yourself.
2. Get clear

Now comes the fun part, start to visualize where you want to be; what you want your life to look like; how you want to feel. Your future is vast and can be a somewhat overwhelming topic to tackle….that’s okay. You can start small, with more immediate intentions and work your way up, or start with the big picture and narrow down the details. You can break your visions up into categories: the next 6 months, one year from now, three years now and so forth. Whatever method works best for you, go with that.
Really take the time to get clear and get specific- the details are the best part. Tap into your imagination, let your mind run wild. There are many mediations that can assist you in this process. Do some form of visualization everyday in order for your visions to become clearer and more vivid.
3. Write it down

Never underestimate the power of the written word. You have a much better chance at manifesting your intentions if you write them down. It helps you to better articulate the abstract thoughts floating around in your head into concrete visions. It frees up room in your brain for more creativity and helps you put plans into motion. It also holds you more accountable. Seeing your intentions written out is more motivating and compelling.
4. Speak up
Share your visions with your loved ones. It may seem a little daunting to say them out loud, but again you only increase the chances of manifesting your intentions if you say them out loud. Spoken goals are much more powerful then ones left unsaid. You don’t have to pour your heart out to everyone in your life or give them every little detail. It is a good idea though to share the main idea of your visions with those around you because they will most likely be instrumental in helping you achieve these intentions.
5. Confront your fears

Your fears are nothing to run from. Embrace your fears, shed light on them. Make a list of all the fears that are or could potentially hold you back from manifesting your dream life. Don’t let them build up negative energy in your mind, instead release them and brainstorm creative ways to overcome these fears.
6. Define action steps.

Now that you have this amazing vision of what you want your life to look like; you’ve written it down; you’ve shared it with others; you’ve identified fears surrounding these intentions- it is time to come up with a list of short term actions you can take within the next week or month to get you going on your desired path. Don’t put these off. This is the difference between having the life of your dreams or just going through the motions.

7. Create visual reminders

We are all busy people and despite our best intentions and efforts, things, often the most important things, slip through the cracks. That is why you need daily visual reminders. Vision boards are a fun and effective way to display the intentions you have set for yourself. There are plenty examples on the internet. You can make them out of anything from a poster board to a piece of driftwood.
If you aren’t up for an entire vision board, keep small reminders around your home. It can be sticky notes on your mirror, quotes on your refrigerator, pictures around your room, change the lock screen on your phone to a gentle reminder – you’re guaranteed to look at that only about a thousand times a day. These will help to keep you inspired and remind you that you are in control of your future.

Manifesting isn’t a one and done thing. The goal is to form a lasting dynamic relationship with your intentions and to spend time with them each and every day. Some days will provide huge breakthroughs, others huge heartbreaks. Most days you may not see a difference at all, but believe in the vision you have created for yourself and trust that you are capable of manifesting the life you desire…. and deserve.

Botanical Scrub

If exfoliation isn’t already part of your self care ritual, you may want to rethink things. Exfoliation increases your circulation, allowing more oxygen to be carried to your cells. It stimulates your lymphatic system, which is responsible for moving toxins out of your body. It removes dead skin cells and opens your pores allowing for deeper detoxification and smoother, tighter skin.
Our Botanical Scrub is gentle yet powerful exfoliant that will awaken your senses with its herbaceous blend of oils that leave your skin softer, healthier and more radiant. It can also be added to a bath for a detoxifying soak that will clear your mind, melt away the day’s troubles and restore your body and soul.
Sea Salt

Sea salt aids in the exfoliation process, allowing you to remove dead skins cells. It revives dull skin, creating a smoother and more youthful look. Sea salt acts as a natural detoxifier, absorbing the toxins in your skin. This helps remove impurities and prevent acne. It is known to be therapeutic for muscle soreness due to its high magnesium content. Sea salt is also rich in trace minerals that are beneficial to your skin.
Olive oil

Olive oil contains three powerhouse antioxidants: vitamin E, polyphenols and phytosterols. When used topically these antioxidants can help protect your skin from free radical damage and prevent premature aging. Olive oil also has the ability to deeply penetrate and moisturize your skin without clogging your pores.

Rosemary has anti-inflammatory properties which can help relieve muscle pains, joint aches, rheumatism and arthritis. Using rosemary oil on your skin can boost cell regeneration, which helps replace damaged skin tissue and reduce the appearance of scars and spots. The essence of rosemary is very stimulating to the brain and acts as a natural mood enhancer.

Peppermint oil contains menthol which has a cooling effect and works to wake up and brighten dull skin. It is rich in omega 3 fatty acids, vitamin A & C, calcium, iron, potassium, and magnesium, which makes it very nourishing and deeply moisturizing for your skin. Peppermint oil is also known to control the secretion of excess oil, which prevents the clogging of pores and blemishes.
Bentonite clay

Bentonite clay is a highly detoxifying and healing element. This clay has naturally negatively charged electrons. Toxins such as heavy metals have positively charged electrons. The combination of Bentonite clay with heavy metals allows the clay to bind to the heavy metals and extract them out of the skin. Bentonite clay has been known to aid in the treatment of skin problems and irritations, such as psoriasis and eczema.

10 Daily Detoxes

Juice cleanses, whether they are one day or a week long, are a great way to hit the reset button on your entire body. There are simple ways to detox on a daily basis though. It is these small consistent changes that really make a big impact and keep your system running at an optimal level.

1. Oil Pulling

If you are not familiar with oil pulling – it is an ancient Ayurvedic practice of swishing oil around in your mouth to help extract toxins and bacteria. First thing in the morning, put a spoonful of oil (coconut is our preferred option, but you can use other variations such as sesame or olive oil) in your mouth and swish it around. You can start with 5 minutes and work your way up to 20. Afterwards, spit it out in the trash. Not only does this technique detox your mouth, but it removes plague, freshens breath and even whitens teeth.

2. Scrape Your Tongue

Tongue scraping is another Ayurvedic practice that will help remove bacteria, toxins and dead skin cells from your tongue. This build up can weaken digestion and liver functioning. After oil pulling use a tongue scraper to reach as far back as possible to pull off the film on your tongue. Trust us – it is very satisfying.

3. Lemon Water

After you’ve made your mouth so fresh and so clean clean, it’s time to energize the body, stimulate digestion and alkalize the system. A glass of lemon water will take care of all this and so much more. This may be the simplest, yet most effective way to improve your overall health. You can add a pinch of cayenne to rev up your metabolism, or a teaspoon of raw apple cider vinegar to increase the detoxifying benefits.

4. Dry Brush

The practice of dry skin brushing stimulates the lymphatic and circulatory systems, helping to speed up the elimination of metabolic waste. It also exfoliates the skin which removes dead skin cells and opens up your pores, allowing the release of toxins. Before you shower, gently brush your skin, moving from your feet upwards and always stroking towards your heart.

5. Detox Your Skin Care

If you are going to take the time to implement these detox practices to release toxins, you don’t want to be putting dangerous chemicals back into your body through your skin care products. Our skin is our largest organ. Anything we put on our skin, seeps into our body, effecting every other organ. According to the Environmental Working Group, the average woman exposes herself to 168 chemicals a day through her beauty products. Check out our Apothecary line for self care products that are hand crafted from all natural elements that are nourishing and restorative.

6. Add in the Probiotics

Adding probiotics to your diet can make a world of difference. Probiotics help restore the healthy bacteria in your stomach which can maintain your intestines’ natural balance and aid in digestion. You can take a probiotic supplement or incorporate fermented foods or kombucha into your diet.

7. Plant Power

It is always a good idea to add more dark leafy greens, as well as cruciferous greens, into your diet. They are full of antioxidants, essential vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients. They also support the liver and aid in the detoxification process.

8. Spice It Up

Spices are a simple, affordable and delicious way to rev up your metabolism, aid in digestion, promote detoxing and add a kick of flavor to any meal. There is a variety of amazing spices to choose from: cinnamon, turmeric, cayenne, cumin, coriander, curry and ginger, to name a few. Start building up a killer spice rack by buying one every time you’re at the grocery store. They last you a long time and really up the ante, health and taste wise, on any food you’re preparing.

9. Get Moving

Our bodies are meant to move. It’s essential to find unique ways to add some kind of movement into your day: gentle stretching, dancing to your favorite song, a few jumping jacks, walking somewhere instead of driving or simply taking the stairs. Incorporate more intense cardio, yoga or strength training into your routine at least 3 times a week. Get that heart rate up and sweat those toxins out.

10. Just Breathe

Deep breaths can be one of the most therapeutic and cleansing things you can do for yourself. Learning to incorporate breathing techniques into your daily routine will help calm the nervous system, reduce stress and promote detoxification. An ease breathing practice to start with is the 4-7-8 technique.

Try adopting one or two of these detox practices into your day. You will notice a shift in your energy, clarity and attitude. Creating a daily detox routine will help eliminate many of the toxins that we are exposed to on a daily basis and keep you running clean and mean.

Our Radiance Dust is a synergistic blend rich in chamomile blossom, sea buckthorn, camu camu, ginger root and turmeric root. The carefully selected ingredients are designed to create healthy and radiant skin. Camu Camu

They are rich in ellagic acid, an antioxidant that can help protect skin against free radicals. Their beta-carotene levels help to protect the skin against sun damage.

Ginger contains around 40 antioxidant compounds that can help improve the quality of your skin and protect against aging. It can enhance the appearance of your skin by eliminating toxins from your system, as well as stimulating circulation, allowing more nutrients access to your skin.

Turmeric acts as a powerful anti-inflammatory agent that helps minimize redness, acne, puffiness and can also reduce excessive oil secretion. It contains many antioxidants that can help stimulate new cell growth and help retain the skin’s elasticity. Turmeric is also an antiseptic which helps keep the skin clean, smooth and reduce blemishes by killing the acne-causing bacteria.

Sprinkling a little cayenne on your food can help your body digest food faster, helping you burn more fat. Cayenne pepper can increase circulation, promoting a healthy heart. It can also stimulate the lymphatic system, helping your body detox more efficiently.
Sprinkle cayenne over your eggs. Sautée it with bitter greens like kale and watercress. Add a dash to hot cocoa for a spicy decadent treat, or try our Wild Child for the ultimate reset for your system.

Turmeric is a powerful spice that has been used in Chinese and Indian medicine for centuries. Curcumin is a medicinal compound that gives turmeric its bright yellow pigmentation. This active ingredient is also what makes turmeric an anti-septic, anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory agent. It is full of antioxidants, vitamin C, calcium, magnesium and zinc. It can aid in digestion, helping with weight management. It can increase the production of enzymes that neutralize free radicals and improve liver detoxification.
Add turmeric to soups for a savory exotic twist. Roast it over nuts or sunflower seeds for a crunchy snack or crouton alternative. Add zest to homemade salad dressings and marinades. Our Liquid Sunshine is full of turmeric as well as other immunity boosting ingredients. Check out our blog for a list of more creative and delicious ways to spice up your diet with turmeric.

Cinnamon is wonderful spice you can use to sweeten food without adding sugar. It doesn’t just sweeten your food but provides a variety of health benefits. It can lower your blood sugar, LDL which is your bad cholesterol, as well as triglycerides. It can increase circulation. It is an anti-inflammatory agent, helping to ease muscle and joint pain, as well as stiffness. It has been known to boost cognitive function and memory. It can also reduce cravings, as well as provide you with natural and sustainable energy.
Sprinkle cinnamon over oatmeal. Use it as a healthy sweetener for your coffee or tea. Roast apples or pears with cinnamon and honey for a delicious fall treat. Add it to a lentil or black bean soup for a sweet and savory combination or try our Mad Mylk for a satisfying protein boost.
There are many more amazing spices to incorporate into your diet: cumin, coriander, curry and ginger, to name a few. Start building up a killer spice rack by buying one every time you’re at the grocery store. They last you a long time and really up the ante, health and taste wise, on any food you’re preparing.

At MJF, we began to ask ourselves: if you wouldn’t eat something, why would you put in on your body? This question inspired the MJF Apothecary: a handmade, small-batch self care line made from botanicals, florals, minerals, oils, various earth elements and organic food grade ingredients. Taking the same principles we use to make our cold-pressed juice, we created a line of seasonal, plant-based formulas to serve as a natural alternative to products that use harsh dyes, chemicals or additives. Each artisanal blend, like our juices, is designed with a purpose in mind and every ingredient that we include in our products is there for a specific therapeutic reason. This is Why I MJF:
“I believe that loving and nurturing one’s own self is the key to overwhelming happiness on this here earth. So often do we put ourselves on the back burner in order to take care of others – and to take care of that never-ending list of things we have to get done – without realizing that we’re burning ourselves out. We have to take care of ourselves first. It may sound selfish, but it really is just the opposite. Only after we take the time to nurture our own bodies and minds; only after we make an effort to fill ourselves with love, can we take those positive vibes we’ve created, infuse them into everything we do, and spread them to everyone who crosses our paths.”
“Just about a year ago I finally decided to just drop everything and put my health first. I started to fill my life with natural beauty products and rituals that make me feel like a goddess. I began to move my body more and more, gently building its strength and pushing it to reach incredible new limits. I decided to allow only the best foods into my body – organic, whole, real and nutrient-filled goodness. And juicing has been a huge part of this whole transformation. As soon as I take a sip, I can feel the gorgeous nutrients seeping into my body, filling me with light. I notice it in my energy; my skin; my overall happiness. It’s instant gratification, yet the benefits seem to be everlasting.”
“Making my health a priority has been the best decision I’ve made in this life thus far – a solution that was right within arm’s reach this whole time. My one hope is for everyone else on this earth to make the same realization. If we love and care for ourselves first, everything else will come naturally.”

One Small Step to Change Your Life This Fall

relax 2
What a blissful summer. Chillin’ out, maxin’, relaxin’ all cool. Hanging out poolside sipping summery cocktails, getting lost in a good read or dozing off in the warmth of sun. Taking well deserved time outs for all the long hours put into the daily grind. Just because summer Fridays are no more at the office and there is a change in the air doesn’t mean your attitude towards downtime needs to change. Don’t let summer be the only time you indulge in relaxation.
Don’t revert back to your life of go, go, go. Pushing and pushing, cramming one more task onto our ever-growing and never-ending to-do list.  Remember how good it feels to go off the grid for a little, to step away from it all and just savor the moment. Keep the summer vibes going strong all year long. We have a task to add to that list that you are not allowed to push off until tomorrow:rest.
Ditch the excuses. Everyone is busy. If you don’t slow down and prioritize downtime, you’re going to burn yourself out and be too exhausted to accomplish anything. Find time to do nothing and simply enjoy it. No guilt. No making a list in your head of what you have to do after you’re done doing “nothing”. Your mind and body are connected. That constant freight train of thoughts speeding through your head isn’t just taking a toll on your mind, but exhausting your entire body. So shut off your mind for a little.
Here is one simple step of how to do it. Take five minutes. Yes, to start just take five minutes.  Everyone has five minutes, we know you do. If you do this for yourself you will see how easy and essential it is.  During times of stillness, we breathe more deeply, see more fully, think more clearly and hear more keenly. Taking these few moments a day to yourself are easier than you think. So take 5 minutes to sit and focus on your breathing. Take deep calming breaths from your diaphragm. That’s all it takes to start. Here’s the secret to life: the key to gaining more time is taking a time out.
You will experience more mental clarity. That problem you couldn’t solve becomes comically easy to fix. That creative new idea you have been searching the corners of your mind for makes itself known. The light bulb above your head easily upgrades from a 40 watt to a 100 watt bulb  (just be careful not to blind anyone).  You will feel a new level of energy. A natural sustainable energy that didn’t come from guzzling down coffee and it won’t leave you irritable and exhausted with a defeating crash a few hours later. With all this new clarity and energy you are going to be more efficient, productive and be checking off your to do list with new vigor and enthusiasm. You are going to free up your time and have more time to rest and so the cycle continues.
Trust us, just 5 minutes. Those 5 minutes will soon become 10, then 20. The next thing you know you are waking up with the sun to meditate for an hour before you start your day.  Take this change of season to explore this life-changing tip and you are guaranteed to enjoy the benefits of your newfound Zen in no time, we promise.

Name: Kyle Siegel
Age: 25
Occupation: Bartender and Soon-to-Be Yoga Instructor
Location: Montauk- Born and Raised
This is Why I MJF:
Every since I started juicing, I knew there was something real there. I know it seems like a new trend, but people have been doing it forever. I have been doing it for a while and can attest the amazing, life changing benefits.
I began juicing a few years ago because I was looking to get healthy and change my lifestyle. I started bartending at an early age- first at the Memory when I was 15 then onto the Surf Lodge and then the Gig Shack and Ruschmeyers. With that comes a lot of fun- and a lot of drinking and eating so much bad food, so late at night. Basically, a lot of really unhealthy habits become your daily routine.
A few years ago, I got to 200 pounds and I just looked at myself and was like: no. I wanted to make a drastic change and didn’t quite know the first step so I started juicing. I went head first right into a cleanse. I loved it. Even got myself an old school Jack LaLanne juicer. I was never addicted to caffeine; in that I never would go out of my way to find a coffee but now I was going out of my way to get a juice. When you’re on the right track with juicing, it is amazing and you just feel great.
From there, I knew I had to start working out and eating healthier. I played lacrosse in college so I knew what I had to do to get in shape. It was about doing it and just going for it. So, like I mentioned, this all started with a cleanse. First, I jumped into a 3-day cleanse then two weeks later I came back and I did a 10-day long cleanse.
And, from there, I started working out. And wanting to work out. I would sweat in ways I never had before- balls of sweat came out and I felt so much better. I had more energy. I used to stay in bed until noon or later every day- sluggish. Then I found this new routine and I was a different person. Juice/smoothie by 8 am and out the door to workout. When I was living in Key West, I basically lived off of 3 juices a day for 3 months. When I put my mind to something, I want to be good at it- really good at it. Being healthy was no different.
I’ve done a few more juice cleanses, but now it’s really about incorporating juice into my everyday life. It’s important to find the things you like to do and that make being healthy easy and enjoyable or else it can be nearly impossible to keep up with. Especially in a resort town like Montauk. Here, we have 4 months to have fun and make money and it can be really hard to stay motivated. You’re always in motion but going nowhere. Or you are looking for a fast solution to being healthy and there isn’t one. So you end up resorting to eating McDonalds… but for what purpose? You get no joy or satisfaction out of it but you’re tired and your options are limited so you give in.
Then I come home and see Montauk Juice Factory. Since day one, I have been all about MJF and continue to show support. It is now my hometown juice company. I believe in community and I definitely believe in good health. Why wouldn’t you support a local business that is helping Montauk make a step in the right direction? I see this as a sign of changing times for a more positive Montauk with better choices and a deeper awareness.
I read a quote recently that really resonated with me and captures all of this so well: “I began to realize how important it was to be an enthusiast in life. If you are interested in something, no matter what it is, go at it full speed. Embrace it with both arms, hug it, love it and above all become passionate about it. Lukewarm is no good.”
Your body is the most important thing you own. You have to respect that. And not only respect it but find something that helps you go after living a full and healthy life with passion.
To me, yoga goes hand in hand with juicing. I started practicing yoga last October and I loved it but had no idea how much it would change my life. I’m now going to Bali in November to get my yoga teacher training. In fact, I am being sponsored by a company called Liforme. Kind of surreal. I know that without juicing, I never ever would have started my yoga practice. I have been juicing for 2 years and practicing yoga for 1 year and I have already seen so many huge changes in myself and my life. The good kind- the kind that make you feel alive and enthusiastic about it.
We are inspired by the amazing people who we meet everyday. We’ve discovered each of them has a unique and powerful reason they choose to invest in themselves and their health. 5 Benefits of Inversions

Kama Deva 2

Change your perspective, literally. Inversions are a great way to shake things up, push yourself outside your comfort zone and reap a range of health benefits. Common inversion poses are handstands, headstands, plow pose and legs up the wall.

Here’s 5 reasons why you should incorporate inversions into your daily routine:

1. Brain power

Banish the brain fog. Inversions reverse your blood flow. This sends more oxygen and blood to your brain, nourishing your brain cells and can help increase mental function, concentration, memory and processing abilities.

2. Immunity boost

Looking to detox? Get upside down. The lymphatic system is responsible for cleansing and draining the toxins from your tissues.  Inversions can help lymphs move throughout the body more efficiently, improving the immune system.

3. Mellow out

Heating inversions (handstand & headstand) increase blood flow to the brain, energizing and invigorating the body, but cooling inversions (shoulder stand & legs up the wall) have the reverse effect. These types of inversions activate the parasympathetic nervous system, helping to produce a calming effect on the brain.

4. Glowing skin

Invert your way to radiant skin. Inversions flood your face with nutrients, oxygens and stimulate your facial capillaries. Give yourself a natural face lift.

5. Mood enhancer

Turn your frown upside down. Inversions flush your adrenal glands, stimulating the release of neurotransmitters and endorphins. This can instantly make you feel uplifted and even combat depression and mood swings.

10 Ways to spice up your life with turmeric

Turmeric is a powerful spice that has been used in Chinese and Indian medicine for centuries. Curcumin is a medicinal compound that gives turmeric its bright yellow pigmentation. This active ingredient is also what makes turmeric an anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-inflammatory agent. It is full of antioxidants, vitamin C, calcium, magnesium and zinc. It can help neutralize free radicals and improve liver detoxification. It has been known to protect against Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, heart disease and has even been used to treat depression.
There are many delicious and creative ways to add turmeric to your diet. Here are 10 ways to spice up your diet with turmeric (side note: its intense coloring will stain clothes and surfaces a bright yellow so handle with care!)

1. Golden Mylk (Hot or Iced)

Combine 2 cups of your favorite dairy-free milk alternative with 1 teaspoon of cinnamon, 1 teaspoon of turmeric and 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg. Heat this mixture on the stove for a warming bedtime treat that will lull you into a deep slumber. Need a cool down? Put in the fridge and serve over ice for a delicious and refreshing daytime beverage.

2. Salad Dressing

Say ‘see ya’ to store bought dressings. They are filled with refined vegetable oils, toxic preservatives, poisonous thickening agents, artificial food coloring and empty calories. Instead opt for a DIY dressing. Here is a simple, zesty recipe that will complement any salad while boosting your immunity:

1 tsp white miso paste

1 tsp apple cider vinegar

2 tsp olive oil

1 tsp honey

1/4 tsp turmeric

Whisk all ingredients together in a bowl. Add any other seasonings or salt and pepper to your liking. Drizzle and enjoy!
4. Kale Chips

Kale chips are by far one of our favorite crunchy and satisfying go-to snacks. Kale chips are not only completely guilt-free but also very easy to make. Simply pick the kale leaves off the stem, toss in olive oil and bake for 20 minutes at 275 degrees F. The best part is choosing the spices to season them with- this is where the turmeric comes in! We recommend pairing with garlic and cayenne.

5. Turmeric Marinade

Mixing together a cup of lemon juice, a tablespoon of olive oil and a 1/2 teaspoon of turmeric makes a killer marinade for chicken, fish, steak, veggies – even corn on the cob. It is the perfect light sauce for your next summer barbecue. Try adding in a little cumin for a southwestern flare.

6. Roasted Cauliflower

Another guilt-free and delicious treat that we love is roasted cauliflower. We can’t get enough of this tropical-inspired recipe: chop one head of cauliflower into bite-sized pieces; then coat with coconut oil and squirt with juice from 1 lime. Finish by seasoning with turmeric and sea salt. Bake for 30 minutes or until golden brown.

7. Dip

This ain’t your mama’s veggie dip. If you’re tired of the basic veggie dip that has been served at every barbecue since the 60’s, try this recipe for a new and improved twist on a classic.

1 cup raw cashews

½ cup of coconut meat

⅓ cup coconut milk

3 tablespoons lemon juice (or lime)

1/2 teaspoon of turmeric

1/4 teaspoon of minced garlic

⅛ teaspoon cayenne pepper

Sea salt, to taste

Combine all ingredients together in a food processor (or blender) until smooth. Serve with veggies for a crudite platter that is guaranteed to be a crowd-pleaser at your next shindig.

8. Roasted Nuts

These make excellent crouton substitutes for salads or crunchy additions to any dish. Pick your favorite nuts, sprinkle them with olive oil and a little turmeric and paprika and bake on 350 degrees Fahrenheit for about 15 minutes. Sunflower seeds or chickpeas also work well in case of a nut allergy.

9. Turmeric Truffles

This is a sweet and savory all-natural treat that is filled with superfoods and sustainable energy.

1 cup soaked, pitted dates

1/2 cup soaked walnuts (optional)

4 tablespoons raw cacao powder

2 tablespoons coconut oil

1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Pinch of sea salt

Combine all ingredients in a food processor or blender. Place in the fridge for about 10 minutes to harden. Roll into balls and then into a mixture of 2 teaspoons of turmeric and 3 tablespoons of hemp seeds until coated. Chill for 15 minutes before serving.
10. Liquid Sunshine

And finally if you want no fuss, no mess, no measuring, mixing or baking of any kind – try our Liquid Sunshine. It is a super loaded OJ that is known to give you a healthy glow from the inside out. This tropical citrus elixir is packed with the superstar spice, turmeric; and we even add ginger root for an extra immunity boosting kick. Soak up the sunshine and enjoy all of the delicious and amazing benefits!

9 Foods that Make you GLOW

When it comes to healthy-looking skin, what you put in your body often matters more than what you put on it.
Processed foods, sugar and junk food rob your skin of its natural luster but whole foods filled with minerals, vitamins and antioxidants can help you radiate from the inside out.
Here are 9 foods that will give you a coveted summer GLOW:

1. Avocados

Pass the guacamole. Avocados are full of essential fatty acids that protect skin cells and prevent aging. They are also rich in antioxidants and vitamins A, C and E that nourish and hydrate the skin.

2. Berries

Berries on berries on berries. There are plenty of delicious options to choose from: blackberries, blueberries, raspberries and strawberries. All of them are full of antioxidants that protect your skin from free radicals and UV damage.

3. Citrus

Pucker up- these tart fruits have an abundance of vitamin C which is important for the protection of skin cells and the production of collagen. The presence of amino acids, proline and lysine, are also responsible for giving your skin that youthful glow.

4. Watercress

This peppery leafy green is stocked up on minerals, antioxidants and vitamins that protect and beautify skin. Dubbed the “facelift plant”, a recent study showed that adding one bag a day to your diet can actually plump wrinkles, reduce fine lines and improve the overall texture and tone of your skin.

5. Tomatoes

Lycopene doesn’t just give tomatoes their bright red coloring, it also stimulates circulation and helps protect the skin from sun damage. The high content of vitamin C assists in the production of collagen giving you smoother, more youthful skin.

6. Watermelons

Watermelons are 92% water so not only will they quench your thirst, but they will hydrate your skin leaving it looking soft and supple. They also fight free radicals and help replenish your natural collagen.

Almonds, walnuts, pecans – go nuts! Nuts contain a high doses of vitamin E, selenium, omega-3 fats and zinc which are all helpful in upping your collagen levels and protecting your skin cells from damage. Nuts also are high in fiber content; which helps the colon function and takes pressure off the skin to release waste.

8. Pineapples

Pineapples are rich in vitamins, minerals and the very important enzyme bromelain. This inflammation-fighting agent helps create clear, vibrant skin while reducing puffiness and redness.

9. Carrots

Don’t pass on the crudite. The beta carotene in carrots is a skin-friendly nutrient which the body converts into Vitamin A. It provides protection against UV damage and helps fight against signs of premature aging.

Most of us wake up dehydrated leaving you with decreased energy levels. So keep a glass of lemon water by your bed for when you wake up. Your body is detoxifying while you sleep so it is important to drink up when you wake up to rehydrate and flush out toxins.

Buddy Up: A Workout Plan That Will Stick

Can’t seem to find a workout routine that you actually stick to? The issue isn’t the type of workout. The key to success here is motivation. When it comes to working out, having a friend along for the ride- or lift- can really be beneficial. You need a buddy to hold you accountable and influence you to keep it up.
Scheduling your workout sessions with friend forces you to carve out specific times to exercise. It not only motivates you to get to the gym, but pushes you to work harder and longer during your workout. A 2012 study conducted by the University of Michigan found that people who exercised with someone who was at a slightly higher fitness level exercised about twice as long and with about twice as much effort than when working out alone.
Working out with a friend can also give you access to different ideas and inspiration that you may have never tried on your own. It makes working out more fun and enjoyable, upping the release of endorphins even more. Take turns selecting different activities and routines to shake things up and workout a wide range of muscles. So grab a friend and get to it. Like the old saying goes, two is better than one.

4 Ways to Ditch the Soda (Diet Too)

While we all enjoy a cold, refreshing beverage from time to time, but drinking soda is essentially drinking liquid sugar. Soda can contribute to weight gain and slow metabolism. Sugar and caffeine dehydrate you and create energy rushes followed by crashes, which are ultimately energy-depleting. This may seem obvious but the same goes for “zero calorie” and diet sodas. Basically, it’s all super unhealthy and won’t do anything for you except for secretly pack on the pounds and hold you down. Substitute the sugary soda with clean alternatives like the following:

Flavored water: store bought brands are popping up everywhere but to ensure what you are getting is free of artificial sweeteners or chemicals make your own at home. Throw in slices of your favorite fruits and veggies- lemons, oranges, watermelon, cucumber, mint or berries- to a pitcher of ice-cold water for a refreshing and flavorful drink. Bonus, you get an infused water full of healthy perks and it looks quite pretty.

Another great option is to put chopped-up fruit in an ice cube tray, add water and freeze. Place these colorful cubes in your beverage for instant flavor, color and chill during these upcoming hot summer months

Green tea: Hot or iced, this is a beverage that is calorie-free and naturally high in antioxidants. It provides a smaller dose of caffeine to wake you up without making you wired an jittery. If you want a little sweetening, add a few drops of honey or a lemon wedge for a guilt free pick me up.

Refreshing fruit smoothie: even if you are not a whiz in the kitchen you can whip up a delicious and frosty smoothie in 5 minutes with 3 ingredients or less. Take 1 cup of liquid (water, coconut water, cold pressed juice or non-dairy milk), 1 banana and 1 handful of frozen fruit of your choice (mango, strawberry, peach) and mix in a blender for 30 seconds. The combinations are endless and you get a fruity, tropical treat that is rich in fiber, vitamins and minerals.

Kombucha: If you are craving something bubbly, give Kombucha a try. It is a fermented tea that is loaded with B vitamins, enzymes and probiotics. Kombucha improves gut health and digestion, aids in weight loss, increases energy, supports detoxification and cleansing, boosts the immune system, reduces joint pain and can even prevent cancer.

Soak Up the Sunshine

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin that has three forms: D1, D2 and D3. It can effect as many as 2,000 genes in your body. It can be found in few foods though, mostly fatty fish. It is added to certain products and cereals aka “fortified with vitamin D”. We get the majority of our vitamin D, 80-90%, from exposure to direct sunlight.
The vitamin D you gain from sunlight exposure can bolster your immune system and boost brain function. It is responsible for regulating the absorption of calcium and phosphorus. It is vital for normal and healthy growth and development of bones and teeth. It also prevents more serious diseases such as cancer, Type 1 diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis… and it is absolutely free! The right amount of sunshine, about 15 minutes a day, can do wonders for your physical, mental and emotional health.
Sunlight can restore adequate levels of vitamin D very efficiently. It takes only 6 days for sunlight exposure without sunscreen to make up for 49 days of no sunlight. Your body’s fat stores the vitamin D it produces when exposed to the sun and then releases it during periods of no sunlight.
However, the benefits of sunlight can’t get through glass. This means that sunbathing through your office windows won’t supply you with any vitamin D so consider this your official excuse to get outside!

3 Plants to Detoxify Your Home

Bad news: there are toxins in the air literally all around you and they are dragging your system down. Good news: you can clear the air of those nasty toxins with just a few friendly houseplants. If you paid attention in any science class you will remember that during photosynthesis, plants absorb carbon dioxide and release oxygen, making them human’s ideal counterparts.
Plants can remove up to 87% of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) every 24 hours. Common VOCs include formaldehyde, benzene, and trichloroethylene. They also produce moisture during photosynthesis. They release about 97% of the water they intake which can help with dry skin, colds, sore throats and coughs.
The top three household plants to look for are:

Mother-In-Law’s Tongue, also known as the Snake Plant, this plant can convert carbon dioxide to oxygen at night, making it a good bedroom plant.

Peace Lily is known for removing mold from the air, making it an ideal plant for bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms. It also removes benzene, a common household chemical and trichloroethylene, a chemical found in cleaners.

Money Plants improve air quality by filtering out formaldehyde, which is a common ingredient in cleaning products, toilet paper, tissues and other personal care products, and other VOCs.

You should be able to find these at your local nursery. While we can’t completely avoid indoor air pollution, these power plants purify the air naturally which can help ease seasonal allergies, skin problems and even lessen chronic fatigue/depression.

4 Healthy Traveling Tips

We are stoked it’s vacation season, but it is definitely harder to stay healthy when traveling. Here are a few tips for keeping it clean while on the go:

Snack Attack: Plan ahead and keep a few healthy snacks on hand to avoid making those “hangry” vending machine and fast food missteps. Keeping raw nuts and goji berries, air popped popcorn spiced up with herbs like oregano, garlic or cinnamon, cut up vegetables like peppers, carrots and celery or berries and chopped up fruit on hand ensure you always have a healthy option when you’re on the go.

Chia Water: Bring a bag of chia seeds with you and add a tablespoon of them to your water bottle to increase hydration, stock you up on omega-3 fats, fiber and protein, provide sustainable energy and keep you full, curbing your hunger.

Ashwagandha: We have found the secret to adapting to jet lag, ashwagandha. Ashwagandha is an adaptogen, which is an herb that promotes balance within the body, reduces sensitivity to stress and increases energy. Ashwagandha can be taken in powdered form, dried root, capsules or tablets.

Green Machine: Chlorophyll is a great supplements for overcoming altitude shock when flying. Chlorophyll helps your blood bring more oxygen to your cells. Stock up on shots of chlorophyll to add to your water. E3 Live, chorella, and spirulina are also rich in chlorophyll.

What’s Juice Got To Do With It?

What’s juice got to do with it? Well, everything!
Over the next few weeks, we will be authoring a series of blog posts with tips and tricks on juicing from the juice pro’s on Insider Tracker. Why juice? What to juice? When to juice? How to juice? We’ll cover it all.
Like the folks at InsideTracker, Montauk Juice Factory is on a mission to help people take control of their health by understanding the fuel each individual body needs to transform into its most optimal version of itself.
We’re supremely excited to partner with InsideTracker to bring you another powerful tool in your quest for optimal wellness. Keep an eye out for our upcoming partner page with goodies galore.
Juicing 101: Why Juice?
Not all juices are created equal. Remember the juice box that was tucked into your lunch bag as a kid? The carton of OJ on your local supermarket shelf? That’s not the type of juice we’re suggesting you consume. Montauk Juice Factory is devoted to a different world of juicing: we create raw, cold-pressed juices that are chock-full of enzymes, phytonutrients, vitamins, and minerals, and we want to share what we know so that you can do it, too.
When we discovered cold-pressed juicing it was love at first sip. As athletes and health-conscious individuals, we found it to be a helpful tool for staying in balance. Consuming juice helps us to meet our nutritional requirements every day, while serving as a delicious alternative to less healthy snack foods. When applied as part of a controlled fasting protocol, juicing can give our bodies a break from digestion and excessive caloric indulgence.
Cold-pressed juices can serve as a tool that jumpstarts a shift in your nutrition habits.. Increasing your daily dose of fresh fruits and veggies consumption is usually a good thing. By consuming fresh pressed juices, you can triple or quadruple your daily dose of fresh vegetables and fruits in one sitting. The cold-pressed method helps to extract the most juice out of produce while not losing micronutrients to heat as in the traditional, centrifugal process.
Concentrated plant nutrition is among nature’s best medicines. Juicing can help us to take charge of our health by flooding our body with nature’s plant-based goodness, rather than with the fillers in processed snack foods. Juicing is not about deprivation, denial or dieting; it’s about adding more to your life in the way of high-integrity, nutrient-rich foods, no matter how slammed your schedule is. It’s also a neat way to add a variety of delicious new foods to your diet that you may not otherwise consume.

Of course, just because it’s cold-pressed, doesn’t mean it’s perfect. Some common pitfalls of juicing include using ingredients with too much sugar, not using enough variety and not using organic produce. Certain ingredients have synergistic effects, meaning that consuming them in combination rather than in isolation, may have additional benefits. Juices should not be haphazardly thrown together. We like to think of juices as ‘purpose-driven.’
Each juice recipe should have a goal in mind: some may contain higher quantities of magnesium, while others may contain greater amounts of antioxidants. At Montauk Juice factory, we use a carefully researched variety of greens, fruits, seeds, and citruses. We also source seasonal produce and local, whenever possible. We add super-foods, tonic herbs, functional roots and healing spices, some of which have been used throughout traditional cultures for centuries.
When juicing in your own home, these are things to take into consideration: a variety of fresh, local, nutrient-dense ingredients work best in juicing, just as they work best on your plate.
Deliver a Powerful Punch

Diets lacking vitamins, minerals and micronutrients can negatively impact daily performance and any fitness or health goals you are trying to achieve. Minerals, for example, are often an underestimated micronutrient. In addition to the main minerals like calcium, magnesium, iron, potassium, and sodium, you need trace amounts of manganese, selenium, zinc, iodine, chromium, and copper to operate at your fullest potential. Your body uses these minerals to make proteins, enzymes, hormones, neurotransmitters, and everything else needed to run clean and mean.
There are two problems, however: your body can’t produce these minerals on its own and they are often sweat out during regular exercise. Minerals must be replenished via your diet. Juicing is one alternative to taking a pill or powder.
So, if your InsideTracker results come back with a serious deficiency in magnesium what are you to do? A green juice that is low in sugar is one way to ensure you’re getting heaping amounts of it without the added junk. A glass of dark, leafy green juice provides a mega-dose of the ingredients that are naturally rich in magnesium and other nutrients.
Our ‘Green Mama’ juice, for example, contains a variety of greens: organic kale, spinach, Swiss Chard, dandelion greens, cucumber, celery and liquid chlorophyll. These ingredients provide a wide range in benefits as they are rich in alkaline minerals, such as calcium, magnesium and potassium.
Dark, green leafy vegetables, especially Swiss chard and spinach, are some of nature’s most nutrient-dense plant sources of magnesium. One 16 ounce glass of a juice made with these ingredients can contain up to 7-8 pounds of greens. By starting your day with a juice like that, you’ll nourish your body with a powerhouse dose of magnesium before you’re even out the door! It’s simple to make this juice in your very own kitchen using high quality, local ingredients and a good juice press.
This is just one example of what purpose-driven, raw food nutrition can do for your health. While InsideTracker uses your very own blood to provide valuable insights into your nutrient needs, we hope to help take the guesswork out of how to use juicing to supply those nutrients. Choosing kale over that donut is a no-brainer, but it’s a whole lot more enticing when the kale tastes delicious!

5 Reasons to Drink Watermelon Juice

BB Treat 2

Watermelon juice tastes like summer in a bottle. It’s refreshing and hydrating with just the right amount of sweet. Besides being delicious it provides a range of fantastic health benefits. We are going to show you 5 reasons to love watermelon juice:

1. Lycopene

Believe it or not, watermelons surpasse tomatoes in having the highest lycopene content. Why is this a huge win for watermelon? Lycopene is a powerful antioxidant that can help protect your cardiovascular system from free radicals, your skin from UV damage and your body from certain forms of cancer.

2. Citrulline

Citrulline is an amino acid that your body converts into arginine and uses to improve circulation and relax blood vessels. So not only will a glass of watermelon juice quench your thirst after a workout but it will increase blood flow, relieving muscle soreness and cramping.

3. Vitamins and Minerals

Watermelon juice is loaded with your daily dose of vitamins A and C. It also contains potassium and B6 which are responsible for energy production (a necessity for these wild summer nights.)

4. Kidney Support

Watermelon juice is extremely cleansing for your system, especially your kidneys. It helps to flush out ammonia and uric acid. It has even been shown to help with kidney stones!

5. Natural Diuretic

Watermelon juice acts as a natural diuretic: it helps flush out any excess water weight and leaves you looking slim and beach ready.

8 Ways to create an empowering morning routine

IMG_8969 copy

The morning sets the tone for the rest of your day. Ask any wellness expert their secret to a happy and healthy life; most of them will stress the importance of creating a morning routine. This will help you change the course of your entire day. You will have more energy, less stress and anxiety, more positivity, a higher self-esteem, better self-control and more mental clarity. We know your sleep is precious to you but getting up a half an hour earlier to focus on yourself will make such a world of difference.

1. Hydrate

Most of us wake up dehydrated leaving you with decreased energy levels. One of the easiest things you can do to improve your morning is keep a glass of water by your bed for when you wake up. Your body is detoxifying while you sleep so it is important to drink plenty of water from the moment you wake up to rehydrate and flush out toxins. Adding lemon to your water stimulates digestion, supports liver function, alkalizes your body, boosts immunity and it’s oh-so refreshing.

2. Take a moment

Before your mind is flooded with tasks to do throughout the day- take at least 5 minutes to quiet your mind and center yourself. Focus on your breathe and be aware of the present moment. Be patient with yourself! Keep your mind from drifting from one thought to the next is difficult. The important thing is to stick with it, focus on your breath and just try to be aware of the present moment.

3. “I am awesome!”

Start your day with a positive affirmation! This is one of the most powerful things you can do to set the wheels in motion for the day. Create a daily mantra for yourself. While you’re getting ready- take a moment, look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself something empowering like: “I am confident and can handle whatever today throws my way”, “I have unique strengths that no one else can offer” or “I look and feel damn good today!”

4. Intentions

The morning is an optimal time to set your intentions for the day. Your mind is clear so taking the time to brainstorm goals and intentions is very effective. Write down new intentions, review old ideas or visualize your goals; use this sacred morning time to focus on the ideal life and how to manifest it.

5. Ask yourself one great question

Your brain is a fine piece of machinery and it loves to be put to work. Steer your brain in the right direction by asking it a an empowering question like “How can I be my happiest self?” or “What am I grateful for?” You will get creative and inspiring answers and you may even surprise yourself in the process.

6. Wake up grateful

Take a few minutes to appreciate your life and focus on what you have been blessed with today. Keep a gratitude journal is a powerful reinforcement tool and studies show there is a range of mental health benefits that come from recording positive events.

7. Get moving

A long run or an invigorating yoga sequence can release two happy chemicals, serotonin and dopamine which trigger feelings of well being and happiness! This will also get your blood flowing, release stiffness and fuels you with clean energy.

8. Don’t skip breakfast!

Breakfast sets the tone for your body’s digestion and metabolism. Keep your fridge stocked with fresh, organic cold-pressed juices and foods. This is a way to ensure you will always have a healthy grab-and-go breakfast!

Keep it simple and have fun with it. Find a routine that speaks to you- one that focuses you, motivates you and puts you in the right state of mind. Above all, listen to your body. If your body is saying, “Get up and go for a run” – then throw on your sneakers. Just remember to do one great thing for yourself every morning and remind yourself that today is going to be an awesome day.

5 Ways to Use Leftover Juice Pulp

Cold pressed juicing is an amazing process that extracts liquids from the pulp of fruits and vegetables leaving you with nutrient and vitamin dense juice. Your body benefits because you can easily assimilate the juice right into your bloodstream without having to digest it. During this process, the pulp of the fruits and vegetables becomes dried out from the constant pressing and we have often found that juice shops are throwing it away! So what are you supposed to do with it? Here are our 5 favorite ways to make good use of leftover juice pulp.
1. Composting

At MJF, we are left with a lot of excess pulp so we donate it to local community gardens. The fibrous pulp breaks down quickly and infuses compost with a wide range of valuable nutrients. The compost can then be added to gardens for healthier soil and high-yielding plants. If you don’t have a compost of your own, you can reach out to local community gardens and donate your remaining pulp to them.
2. Smoothies

Leftover pulp is a great way to bulk up your smoothies with healthy fiber. High-fiber, superfood smoothies are important for optimal overall health. They support the digestive system, satisfy hunger, provide sustainable energy and help balance blood sugar.
3. Baking

Juice pulp is a great ingredient to have handy in your kitchen. It can add fiber, flavor and pizazz to almost any meal. Toss some veggie pulp into an omelet. Add a little to quinoa bowls or veggie burgers. Enhance your soups and sauces with it. Fruit pulp is amazing in pancakes, muffins or other baked goods. You can even make your own slaw with carrot, celery and beet pulp.
4. Pulp Chips

Looking for a satisfying and guilt-free snack? Something crunchy and a little salty maybe? Take your juice pulp, mix in some our your favorite spices, superfood seeds (chia, flax, pumpkin), a little H2O depending on how dry your pulp is and bake them on low heat for about an hour.
5. Face Scrubs

Ever wonder how natural your “all-natural” face mask is? The answer is probably not so much. Forget the department store counter: make your own! Fruits and vegetables contain essential vitamins, antioxidants and minerals that soften, tone, exfoliate your skin and leave you glowing. Pulp scrubs can help with inflammation, acne, puffiness, age spots, dark circles and dry patches. Some fruits and veggies that are particularly good for your skin are carrots, cucumbers, lemons, grapefruit and parsley. Mix any of them together with a little raw honey to or egg yolk for a nourishing and brighten real all-natural mask.

Juice Subscription

The benefits of cold pressed juicing are endless. Not only does it make you feel better in general but it also helps you sleep deeper, think clearer, work out better, reduce cravings and gives you clearer, brighter skin. Juicing can be a time-consuming, laborious and messy process. The good news is we want to make this as easy as possible for you, so we do all the dirty work (shopping, prepping, juicing, cleaning) and will deliver fresh cold pressed juices right from our kitchen to your doorstep.
Now you can take it a step further and sign up for a juice subscription. No thinking, no reordering, no worries- just grab-and-go good vibes to your home or office on the regular.
Let us paint you a picture. Imagine this: You wake up energized and ready to tackle the day. You stroll into your kitchen, open your fridge and voila! You are stocked up with all your MJF favorites. No need to fire up the coffee maker, or rush out the door to stop for coffee on your way to work. You’ve got a bottle of Shark’s Brew coffee waiting for you. And for those mornings when you’re in need of an extra boost (so every Monday), you reach for the superfood loaded Macaccino instead.
A glass of freshly squeezed orange juice in the morning- whose got time for that? You do! No more acidic Tropicana from the carton for you. You’ve got an immunity boosting and oh-so-delicious freshly pressed Liquid Sunshine with your name on it.
You grab a juice for work and you’re out the door. Your boss compliments you on how creative, productive and overall kick ass you have been lately (must be all that increased mental clarity) as you sip on your nourishing Green Mama for lunch. With no afternoon crash you get all your work done and get out of the office a little earlier. You decide to fit in a workout. You grab a Dope Beet to rev up your metabolism, get your heart pumping and fuel your workout.
Instead of satisfying your after dinner sweet tooth craving with that pint of ice cream in your freezer you opt for the creamy Mad Mylk in your fridge. The perfect night cap as you drift off into a deep peaceful night’s sleep, knowing you have a fridge full of cold pressed goodness waiting for you in the morning.
Want every day to feel that awesome? Let us keep your fridge stocked with a variety of fresh, organic, cold pressed and totally righteous juices. Check out our subscription section under juices. You have a choice of 6 or 12 juices a week. Let us know you’re selection of juices in the checkout process and we will keep the juice and the good vibes flowing.

One “healthy” sweetener to avoid

unnamed-5 copy
Everyone knows that sugar is unhealthy and most health conscious people are trying to limit or avoid it. All sorts of other sweetener options have become popular and one of those is called agave nectar. It is derived from a plant, found in various “health foods” and is claimed to be low-glycemic and diabetic-friendly.
Sounds pretty good, right? Not totally- after some research and consulting with a few nutrition experts, we found agave is not only worse than plain sugar but is basically high-fructose corn syrup (!) masquerading as a healthy alternative.
All sugar- from table sugar to HFCS (high-fructose corn syrup) to honey- contains some mixture of fructose and glucose. Table sugar is 50/50, HFCS is 55/45. Agave nectar is a whopping 90% fructose, almost- but not quite- twice as high as HFCS.
Fructose, the sugar found naturally in fruit, is perfectly fine when you get it from whole foods like apples (about 7% fructose), because it comes with a host of vitamins, antioxidants and fiber. But when it’s commercially extracted from fruit, concentrated and made into a sweetener, it exacts a considerable metabolic price.
In the agave plant, most of the sweetness comes from a particular kind of fructose called inulin that actually has some health benefits and is considered a fiber. But there’s not much inulin left in the actual syrup. In the manufacturing process, enzymes are added to the inulin to break it down into digestible sugar (fructose), resulting in a syrup that has a fructose content that can be as high as 90%. This resulting product is a really sweet syrup that interferes with a healthy metabolism and can throw your whole system off resulting in acne, increased weight gain around your middle or, even worse, diabetes and heart disease.
Agave is almost all fructose- a highly processed sugar with great marketing. True, it has a low-glycemic index, but so does arsenic- that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s good for you.
If you want to have agave in small doses it won’t kill you. Although, if you are trying to be mindful of your health, especially when making your favorite plant-based recipe, superfood smoothie or with your morning tea- then consider these MJF approved alternatives.

5 Best Natural Sweeteners

unnamed-4 copy
At MJF, we are pretty sweet on life. However, there is one thing that we are not so down on: agave. Agave nectar/ syrup is basically high-fructose corn syrup masquerading as a health food. What do we mean by this? Most agave is highly processed and therefore becomes simply a syrup with anywhere from 55% to 90% fructose. This actually makes it way higher in fructose than high-fructose corn syrup. Excessive fructose creates gut problems, contributes to acne and breakouts, raises blood pressure, causes weight gain and- most severely- can trigger diabetes or heart disease. If you want to read more about our nitty gritty scientific findings on the truth about agave click here.
If you’ve got a sweet tooth and are not down with chemicals, preservatives or the weird stuff: no worries, we got you. Try one of these 5 MJF-approved “clean” sugar alternatives:

1. Dates: These dried fruits are not only really delicious but they contain an array of antioxidants, trace minerals and both soluble and insoluble fiber- great for weight loss and sustained energy. Two or three medium size dates in a smoothie will be more than enough to sweeten even the greenest blend.

2. Coconut Nectar: A clean alternative to sugar, this is also the single most sustainable sweetener in the world. Not only is it good for the environment, it also has a variety of positive effects on the body. Coconut nectar can alleviate anxiety, increase heart health and decrease your waistline due to the fact is high in naturally forming electrolytes and life-buildling essential amino acids.

3. Coconut Palm Sugar: Coconuts are one of the most miraculous foods and the benefits of them just keep coming. This sweetener is made from dried and crystalized sap from the coconut tree. You use it just as you would normally use sugar, it is a perfect 1:1 ratio. It has a wonderfully rich, caramel flavor and is gentler on blood sugar than regular sugar. You also get a shot of vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients!

4. Maple Syrup: Good for more than just waffles! This all-natural sweetener comes right from the maple tree and is free from any coloring or additives. It is also high in zinc, calcium and the all-important mineral manganese, which plays an important role in energy production and antioxidant defenses. Pure maple syrup will not spike blood sugar and is a safe alternative for those with metabolic syndrome and diabetes. Just make sure when you’re shopping you get Grade B which is darker and more nutrient dense than Grade A.

5. Raw Honey: One of Earth’s most amazing gifts: raw, unfiltered honey is high in enzymes, has a great trace mineral content and phenomenal healing compounds like proopolis. Look for the “wild” versions- the cheaper, heated or treated versions kill off the live enzymes, can contain illegal additives and may sneakily add in high fructose corn syrup. 1 tablespoon can sweeten any recipe, help fend off seasonal allergies and is gentle on blood sugar levels. Bonus: by buying local wild honey you can support your local beekeeper and save our essential but dwindling bee population.

10 Tips for a Healthier Work Day

IMG_6607 copy

The average American spends 1/3 of their day at work. I’m no math whiz, but that seems to add up! Workplaces can be filled with a lot of pressure, stress, sugary afternoon fixes and way to much glued to a chair. We are here to tell you that it is possible to have an office job and still live a healthy lifestyle. It takes a little adjusting and incorporating smart and health decisions into your day. You will find if you follow these 10 simple tips you will feel more energized, productive, creative and happier at work.

1. Don’t pass on breakfast

A healthy day at the office starts before you even leave your house. First thing in the morning, even before that first cup of coffee, drink a tall glass of lemon water. It will kickstart your day by jumpstarting digestion and hydrating and detoxifying your body. Next step, breakfast. Your mornings set the stage for the rest of your day. Starting off with a healthy breakfast will give you the boost of energy you need to get you going and keeping you going through the first half of the day. Starting your day with healthy choices motivates you to continue making smart decisions the rest of the day.

2. Get moving

Get creative with this! Have a phone call you need to make? Make it on the go. Instead of shooting an email to someone in the office, get up and go get some old fashioned ‘facetime’. Make elevators and escalators something to be avoided like the plague. Taking the stairs will do wonders for your health, not to mention your gluts! Have a one-on-one meeting with someone? Suggest a walk and talk. Invest in a fit band and track your steps each day. Nothing like a little self-competition to keep you motivated. Anytime you can get out of the office and outside, do it. Don’t underestimate what fresh air and mother nature can do for you and your state of mind.

3. Opt for a light lunch

When eating lunch out, stay clear of heavy foods that are going to weight you down and make the rest of your afternoon feel like an uphill marathon. Pass on the bread basket, as tempting as it may be, creamy dishes and anything fried. Salads, plant-based meals, lean protein and light soups make excellent choices. Whenever possible bring a healthy lunch from home. That way you can control what you eat, how much you eat and save a lot of money.

Also avoid working through lunches. Take a proper lunch break, you deserve. Even if it’s just 15 minutes, take your gaze off your computer, put down your phone and take a moment to enjoy the meal that’s in front of you. You will feel fuller, more energized and more satisfied.

4. Keep a healthy snack stash

As 3pm rolls around avoid the unhealthy office snacks and by all means the vending machine. They may seem like the perfect fix to keep you going, but really they are just empty energy that will most certainly lead to a crash and having you feeling worse off. Keep a stash of healthy snack foods readily available: veggie sticks and hummus, fresh fruit, nut butter, homemade trail mix and 85% organic dark chocolate for those days that just won’t seem to end. Having these to fall back on will make passing up on birthday cupcakes and walking by the rows of temptation in the vending machine a lot easier.

5. Drink up

What kind of health post would this be if we didn’t remind you that you need to be drinking more water? Dehydration leads to sluggishness, aches and pains and brain fog. We often confuse hunger for dehydration as well. Drinking more water throughout your day will give you energy, clarity, keep you fuller and subside your coffee and sugar cravings. So before you reach for that 3rd or is it the 4th cup of coffee or that sugary toxic soda- go for a tall glass of water instead. Infuse your H2O with some lemon, lime or cucumber slices to liven it up.

7. Get Up

While you might not be able to take constant breaks to walk around the office, you can certainly get up every 30 minutes or so and just stretch, touch your toes and shake it out. Stand up whenever possible. Incase you haven’t heard, sitting is the new smoking. Too much sitting increases inflammation, insulin resistance, and weight gain. Sitting for more than 6 hours a day can increase blood pressure, as well as up your risk of diabetes, obesity, depression and certain types of cancer. The average American logs 9.5 hours of sitting daily. So will the real Slim Shady please stand up!

(I’m practicing what I preach and just stood up for a little stretch. Take a moment to do the same.)

8. Make your space a sanctuary

Make your office, cubicle, whatever your workspace is, a place you enjoy. I understand that there is only so much you can do with a limited amount of space, but the first step is to declutter and organize. Keep your space simple and in order. Now bring in some life and personality. Get yourself a plant. It will improve air quality, provide more oxygen and enhance creativity. Decorate your space with photos of loved ones, pets, quotes, affirmations- whatever floats your boat. They will help keep you calm, feel grounded and how can you not help but smile at the photo of your pooch rolling around in your bed.

9. Seated Stretches

So when you’re not walking around the office, or taking your standing break and you’re forced to be seated in a chair, there are still ways to be healthy about it: seated cat-cows. Plant both feet flat on the ground and place your hands on your thighs. As you inhale arch your back and look up toward the ceiling. Keep your shoulders pushed down and away from your ears. When you exhale, round your spine, sink your stomach in and let you head drop forward. Repeat this stretch 5-10 times. This will help you breathe oxygen into all parts of your back and torso, and improve your posture.

10. Say Om

That’s right a little midday meditation. Raised cortisol levels aren’t doing anyone any good. So if you are feeling overwhelming, stressed or lacking a little inspiration, take a moment to yourself. Place your hand on your stomach so you can feel your breath as it expands and contracts within you. Try a simple 4-7-8 breathing technique. We have found having an office mantra can really help on stressful days as well. Don’t underestimate the power of words. Create a mantra that is meaningful and empowering to you and repeat it to yourself as you practice your breathing techniques. An old standby I like to use is: I am abundant. I am enough. I have all that I need.

These are all simple and amazing habits to start forming in your workplace. We are passionate about corporate wellness and healthy work environments. Green Smoothie Bowl

I’m surrendering to the trend. I’m making a smoothie bowl…. and I’m not mad about it. This one is super simple and really good. Using spirulina makes me feel like I’m some sort of health god… but I’m not gonna lie it’s weird by itself. It needs some help. So my advice for using algae in your smoothie is to balance it out with really bright flavors like orange or pineapple. Try this one. It’s extra delicious.

You will need:

Two frozen bananas

One table spoon spirulina powder

A hand full of berries

Pineapple juice

Blend and garnish with whatever’s left over (I used banana, berries, and shredded coconut)

This is Why I MJF:
“Health is a subjective term. It has a different meaning for everyone, but we can all agree that healthier is simply better than whatever one was before.”

“While we all have the power of choice, we don’t all have the same resources. For too many, food choices are based on economics. For others, conventional wisdom, miseducation and food propaganda lead to poor decisions (Got Milk anyone?). For the generations before mine, stubbornness is the leading cause of opting out of the organic trend.”

“It took the last ten years for me to convince my own mother (a French immigrant) that she had been misguided by American popular culture. My mom was born and raised on a vineyard/farm outside of Bordeaux, France under the shadow of the Second World War where there no such thing as the Omnivore’s Dilemma. There was no reading the ingredient list on prepackaged foods to see whether or not something would give you cancer. She didn’t worry about Aspartame or Corn Syrup. There was just the eggs you got from the neighbor’s chickens when you traded her for wine, or occasional rabbit stew when you caught one, or a proper steak on Christmas. It was a simpler economic climate before the corn industry infected us all.”

“Nowadays, the backlash against “conventional” foods (a most brilliant term used to describe GMO plagued produce) is prevalent. The shroud that Monsanto so desperately tried to maintain has been lifted and change is in the air. Despite financial blockades (organic foods are still exponentially more expensive than their counterparts), the movement has gained momentum. In all cultures worldwide, people are beginning to ask what’s in their food. And more importantly, beginning to vote with their dollar. Which brings us to the teeny, tiny, little town I call home – Montauk.”

“I’m not a Montauk local (I was born and raised in Manhattan), but I’ve lived here for five years. In the summer, Montauk is a playland loaded with culinary options (I happen to run a seasonal restaurant) and a surprising emphasis on local/organic/sustainable foods. Since Montauk is a fishing village, the seafood is plentiful. The neighboring Hamptons are littered with farms and vineyards, supplying tons of biodynamic options. It’s an oasis of resources and an unknowing participant in the slow food movement. Come the winter however, the land freezes over, the produce dies, the restaurants shutter and this little town empties. Our population dwindles from over 40,000 (tourists and visitors) to under 4,000. We are left with our “conventional” supermarket and a handful of local bars. There aren’t a ton of options for the health conscious, even within driving distance.”

“Enter the Montauk Juice Factory. For a gal like me, walking in to the organic sanctuary that is MJF was one of the happiest moments of 2014. I’m a woman of shortcuts and juicing is the fastest and easiest way for me to put pep in my step. Just a few days without it (this happens mostly when I’m traveling abroad), I feel sluggish almost immediately. The health benefits are undeniable. What’s interesting in particular here however, is the effect MJF is having on the local community. In a time and place where the sociopolitical climate is confusing (gentrification is causing turbulent undercurrent as of late), it’s been a happy surprise to see how welcoming the Montauk community has been to these newcomers. Every day, there seems to be an unexpected customer at their counter. If I’m honest, there may be a certain stereotype we might associate with “green juice” (yes, I’m describing the aprés yoga type). MJF has debunked that. I’m talking about cops, garbage men, post office workers, foreigners, big guys, small guys, old guys and many more alike all lining up for their fix.”

“What does it all mean? That the gear change towards health is upon us. That the toughest demographic to reach has been touched (yes, I’m talking to you baby boomers) and are hopping on the bandwagon towards awareness and active participation for the greater good. By this small gesture of good intent towards the healthier self, we are inadvertently voting with the power of our dollar and saying what we want. MJF has given Montauk a medium to send a message – we want to be healthier. To boil it down? Thanks MJF. I heart you.”

We are inspired by the amazing people who we meet everyday. We’ve discovered each of them has a unique and powerful reason they choose to invest in themselves and their health. We are stoked to share these stories because our mission is to not only deliver the most nutrient-dense, righteous juice on the planet but also to leave people and places better than we found them. This is why we MJF.

7 Ways to Detox Your Grocery List

Ever feel overwhelmed in the grocery store? Try to fill your cart with healthy options, but get sidetracked by the aisles of tempting but not-so-healthy foods? Here are two simple tips to begin with before the shopping even starts:
1. Never food shop on an empty stomach! Your hunger pains will lead you astray. Before you know it you’ll find your hand at the bottom of a Doritos bag before you even hit the check out.

2. Shop mostly on the perimeter of the grocery store, that’s where all the real food is. Avoid the middle aisles for the most part.
Okay now we are going to break it down for you in 7 sections:
1. Vegetables/Fruits:

Always opt for as much organic as you can, but at least buy the “Dirty Dozen” organic. Sauté, ferment, bake, blend or enjoy raw- just get these wonderful guys in your daily routine!

– Leafy Greens (arugula, collard greens, kale, mustard greens, spinach or parsley- pick up at least one every time you’re at the grocery store)

– Asparagus

– Bell pepper

– Broccoli

– Butternut Squash

– Carrots

– Celery

– Cucumber

– Mushrooms

– Onion

– Spaghetti Squash (amazing pasta substitute)

– Tomatoes

– Apples

Avocados (yes they are a fruit)

– Bananas

– Berries (blackberries, blueberries, strawberries or raspberries)

– Lemons

– Pears

– Pink grapefruit

– Plums

– Oranges

Tip: Butternut Squash or sweet potatoes are great to have around for when you’re craving something starchy or sweet. Just pop one in the oven for 30-40 min at 400 degrees and then add a dollop of coconut oil and a sprinkle of cinnamon for a delicious and filling snack.
2. Herbs/Spices

You don’t have to go out and buy all of these at once. Try buying 1-2 items every trip to slowly build a killer spice rack. Most of these will last forever and really up the ante, health and taste wise, on any food you’re preparing.

– Basil

– Cayenne

– Chili powder

– Cilantro

– Cinnamon

– Coriander

– Cumin

– Curry

– Garlic

– Ginger

– Pink Himalayan sea salt

– Rosemary

– Sage

– Thyme

– Turmeric

3. Oils/Condiments:

Again you don’t have to to pick these all up at once. Add 1-2 to your cart to slowly build a badass kitchen.

– Brown rice vinegar

– Extra virgin olive oil

– Low-sodium tamari

– Maple syrup

– Nutritional yeast

– Raw apple cider vinegar

– Raw honey

Unrefined coconut oil

– Vegetable broth

Tip: Nutritional yeast is a great source of vitamin B and gives foods a cheesy flavor without the dairy!
4. Nuts/Seeds:

These make a great addition to smoothies, add a little crunch to salads and are a great source of protein to have around to grab a handful when you feel yourself starting to get hangry. Best to buy raw, unroasted and unsalted as much as possible- but feel free to bake at home and sprinkle with your own spices!

– Almonds

Chia seeds

– Flax seeds

– Pecans

– Pumpkin seeds

– Sesame seeds

– Sunflower seeds

– Walnuts

Tip: Sprinkle pumpkin seeds seasoned with turmeric on a salad instead of croutons. Add chia seeds to your lemon water to keep you full and give you glowing, supple skin.
5. Grains/Beans

These are options that will fill you up, not out. Remember: eating well is not about deprivation. These grains provide great fiber and are excellent replacements for traditional bread or pasta that are part of your current routine.

– Amaranth

– Barley

– Beans (cannelli, garbanzo, kidney)

– Brown rice

– Buckwheat

– Ezekiel bread

– Lentils

– Millet

– Oat groats or steel-cut oats

– Quinoa

Tip: Ezekiel bread toasted with a little olive oil, mashed avocados or cherry tomatoes and sprinkled with sea salt is so satisfying. It provides clean fuel and is literally our go to that never disappoints as either a meal, side or snack.
Healthy Snacks/Craving Fighters

These are a few of the extras you can keep around to curb cravings. They are also great for days when you’re traveling and you think your nutrition could use a little boost.

– Almond or sunflower seed butter

– Bee pollen

– Cacao powder

– Coconut flakes

– Dark chocolate bars (65% or higher cacao content)

– Gluten-free crackers

– Popcorn kernels (not the microwave kind!)

– Spirulina powder

– Tzatziki or fresh hummus (great for dipping any vegetable)

Tip: To curb those hankerings for chocolate and indulge happily add cacao to our chia seed pudding recipe or sprinkle on popcorn. Add bee pollen to frozen blueberries for an on-the-go snack that is energizing and tastes like gummy candy.

In addition to drinking plenty of plain water or water with lemon, these are your best clean beverage choices.

– Almond milk

– Coconut milk

– Coconut water

– Herbal teas (we love Yerba Mate and matcha)

– Kefir

– Kombucha

– Naturally flavored seltzers

Tip: The first five also all make awesome smoothie bases. The last 2 are great carbonated options- especially helpful if you’re trying to wean yourself off soda.

Eat Seasonal: Best Spring Fruits and Veggies

Seasonal copy

Spring has sprung and we couldn’t be more delighted with this transition of seasons. Fact: it has been a long and snowy winter. But now the birds are chirping, the sun is out to play later and everyone seems to have a little more pep in their step. This change of weather also means we get to be reacquainted with the seasonal fruits and veggies we’ve lost touch with over the past few months. And it sure is good to see these old friends.
There’s nothing like biting into a seasonal fruit or veggie and having your taste buds flooded with vibrant, fresh flavor. This flavor explosion isn’t the only reason to play favorites with seasonal produce though. There are many benefits to eating seasonally: it reduces your carbon footprint and is better for the environment overall. It’s also good for your wallet as seasonal produce is significantly cheaper. And bonus: it’s better for you! Seasonal foods are fresher, more nutrient-dense and packed with more vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and fiber. Also, if you follow the season you’ll never get bored- Mother Nature’s bounty is a veritable variety pack.
So while you are strolling through your local farmers’ market, or in the produce section of the grocery store, look out for these delicious and nutritious spring fruits and veggies.

1. Dandelion greens

Dandelions are excellent for liver support, weight loss, digestion and cleansing of your blood. Dandelion is a powerful player in the world of springtime detoxification and is #notjustaweed. Spread the word.

2. Asparagus

A very alkaline food with a high concentration of folate, potassium, iron and vitamins A, K, C and E. If you need another reason to toss it in your next salad, here goes: it is said to be a potent aphrodisiac. Love is in the air!

3. Artichokes

These funny looking vegetables produce important digestive enzymes and helps to support liver functions and can also protect against harmful effects of alcohol. Big party coming up? Pass the spinach and artichoke dip, please.

4. Arugula

One of our favorite greens, arugula is anti-viral, anti-bacterial, and packed with minerals and antioxidants. This distinctive peppery green adds a little pizazz to any dish, so it is no wonder the British call it “garden rocket”.

5. Strawberries

Strawberry season, though short but sweet, is one of our favorites. Nothing compares to a big, juicy and ripe strawberry. They are not only mouth-watering but they are also packed with vitamin C and antioxidants that do wonders for your immune system and help prevent against cardiovascular disease.

6. Rhubarb

Rhubarb is a sure sign of spring fever. It is an excellent source of calcium, reduces blood sugar levels and makes a delicious natural sweetener when cooked.

7. Mangos

This juicy and delicious fruit will make you forget that you are actually doing something amazing for your body while satisfying that sweet tooth. Mangos help lower cholesterol, aid in digestion, and are extremely high in Vitamin C. They are also proven to be extremely beneficial for radiant skin: cleansing your pores of impurities and leaving you absolutely glowing.

Delicious, Nutritious and Ridiculously Easy Chia Pudding

This fiber- rich breakfast will fill you up and keep you going all day long. Chia seeds are packed with sustainable and natural energy, giving you that extra kick in the morning. The coconut milk calms your nerves, maintains normal blood pressure and reduces muscle contractions, making you feel more relaxed. Did we mention it is ridiculously easy to make?!

All you need is 1/4 cup of chia seeds, and a cup and a 1/2 of coconut milk. Combine them in a glass jar with a lid. Cover tightly and give it a good shake. Leave it in the fridge for at least an hour, or overnight so it’s all ready for you in the morning. Serve with fresh berries, bananas, cacao nibs, coconut shavings, goji berries or whatever your heart desires that morning. See we told you it was easy!

Healthy Me, Healthy You

At MJF, we are not only dedicated to making the highest integrity, cold-pressed juice on the planet but also to educating and exciting the future generations about smart food choices. We believe in teaching kids that healthy relationships with their bodies starts with having healthy relationships with food.

We had the pleasure of being invited to The Ethical Community Charter School in Brooklyn to lead a “Healthy Me, Healthy You” workshop. We sampled some of our cold-pressed juices and explained what certain food and good nutrition can do for their growing bodies. By the end, the students had a deeper understanding of how eating fruits and vegetables affects their favorite hobbies and everyday lives (“Makes me run faster!”) and they even discovered a newfound treat in our Purely Pineapple (“It’s better than cupcakes!”) The day was a huge hit and filled with lots of smiles, laughs and good vibes.

If you want us to come to your school or join us in the mission to help kids get stoked about respecting food and their bodies then reach out to us at [email protected].

The Green Machine: Chlorophyll

If you paid attention to any science class from 5th-12th grade you remember that chlorophyll is the green pigment found in plants that soaks up energy from the sun during photosynthesis. Chlorophyll is responsible for helping plants grow. It doesn’t just help plants thrive but humans as well.

Here are some of the amazing benefits of this potent green machine.

1. Build Blood

Chlorophyll’s molecular structure is almost identical to that of hemoglobin, which builds and transports red blood cells. This means it can also assist in increasing the quantity of red blood cells. The increase in red blood cells also helps improve circulation and the flow of oxygen throughout the body.

Chlorophyll not only builds and oxygenates blood but purifies and alkalizes it as well. A little trick is to have a shot of chlorophyll after a cup of acidic coffee to help balance your pH levels.

2. Increases energy

The increase in red blood cells promotes better oxygen absorption in the bloodstream. More oxygen to the brain creates an instant boost of energy and vitality.

Chlorophyll is the life-force of plants. It has a very high vibrational energy, which you absorb when you take it. This green gold will put a pep in your step.

3. Boosts Immunity

Chlorophyll is rich in antioxidants and vitamins A, C and E which help remove heavy metals from the body and neutralize free radicals that cause damage to the cells and fight inflammation. It also contains phytonutrients that kill germs and fight infections.

4. Detoxifies the body

Chlorophyll helps your body process toxins. It nourishes the liver by providing it with oxygen and magnesium, making it function better.

5. Fights odor

Chlorophyll acts as an internal deodorant. It neutralizes and eliminates odors before they can be released from the body. It also aids in the digestive process, removing the underlying reason for bad breath.

Chlorophyll can be taken in capsule, powder, or liquid form. You can find it in our Green Mama, or you get a shot of our Like Borophyll for an extra boost of liquid chlorophyll to add some green power to your water, superfood smoothie or to just swig back.

Our Sweet Harvest gives you your daily servings of greens with a phytonutrient boost that is sweet and smooth. It rejuvenates and satisfies your body, mind and taste buds. Looking at the delicious combination of fruits and veggies we realized they would make one heck of a salad, introducing the Revive Salad.

2. In meantime, cut up apple, pear and cucumber (thin slices or 1 inch chunks).

4. Whisk together all dressing ingredients. Toss with salad. Enjoy!

Breakfast Bowl

You know what’s even more filling and satisfying than a superfood smoothie? A superfood breakfast bowl! When you’ve got a busy day ahead of you or you just need a little extra pick me up in the morning, breakfast bowls are the way to go.

How to Get the Best Night’s Sleep

Too many of us are still underestimating the value of a good night’s sleep. Why do we continue to do this to ourselves? We’ve read the studies. We know what good quality sleep can do for us: improved weight management, reduced cravings, increased energy, better mental clarity and decreased levels of stress and anxiety. So why do we insist on staying up late and regretting it the next morning? Whatever your reason is, we are telling you enough is enough. It’s time to start making sleep a priority and enjoying all of the amazing health benefits.

Here’s how to revolutionize your life and get your best night’s sleep, every night.

1. Create sleeping habits

One of the most important things you can do for your sleep cycle is to wake up and go to sleep around the same time every morning and night. It reinforces a sleep pattern and sends a signal to your brain to realize the right hormones.

2. Work it out

Exercising regularly can be one of the best solutions to chronic sleep problems. Studies have shown that people who exercise on a daily basis have significantly better quality of sleep and more energy throughout the day. Timing is important though. Be sure not to exercise too late in the day. The stimulation will make it harder for you to fall asleep, plus you won’t be able to get those workout jams out of your head.

3. Just say ‘no’ to caffeine (after a certain time).

Don’t worry we aren’t telling you to give up your morning cup of joe, or even that second one around 10:00. But you are going to want to skip the afternoon pick me up. The effects of that caffeine can linger around into the wee hours of the night like a house guest that’s overstayed their welcome. Try a cold pressed juice instead, they will give you the energy boost you are looking for without sacrificing the sleep later.

4. Dim the lights

Mood lighting anyone? As the sun sets, you want to dim the lights in your house as well. Bright lights stimulate your senses. Dim lighting will help your system wind down in preparation for lights out… plus everyone is more attractive in mood lighting anyway.

5. Sleepytime tea or mylk

One of our favorite ways to wind down is a warm mug of either tea or mylk. Any herbal tea will do or try a cup of your favorite mylk alternative warmed up with a teaspoon of turmeric and 1/2 a teaspoon of cinnamon for a delicious and sleep inducing treat. We have our delicious chia hemp Mad Mylk we recommend.

6. Turn your bedroom into a sanctuary

Your bedroom should be a place of blissful rest and relaxation. Create an atmosphere where you can unwind. Take an afternoon and declutter your space. Seriously get rid of all the unnecessary junk. Simplicity is key. Also, under no circumstances should you be bringing your work into the bedroom. Leave it at the door. You can’t be working right up until you want to go to sleep and then expect your mind to just shut off and get a good rest. We aren’t wired that way. Respect your sanity and the sanctity of your bedroom.

7. Enforce a technology curfew

This one may seem like the hardest… at least for us it is. But our computer and phone screens emit a blue light that reduces melatonin, the oh-so-important sleep inducing hormone. Set a technology curfew and be strict with yourself. At least one hour before bed shut it down- no more screens. Trust us that ultra important cat meme or newborn panda video isn’t disappearing overnight.

8. Aromatherapy

Scent can play a big role in relaxation. A few drops of lavender, chamomile or geranium essential oil can go along way. A nice foot or scalp massage (bonus points for convincing your partner to do it for you), or simply a few drops on your pillow case will do the trick. Lighting a soothing candle in your bedroom can also help create that sanctuary feeling.

9. Just Breathe

Breathing techniques and mediation can help quiet the body and mind and induce a serious state of relaxation. Try to just sit and focus on your breath. In and out, in and out- you get the picture. A 4-7-8 breathing technique can also lull you right into a deep slumber. Breath in through your nose for a count of 4, hold for a count of 7 and release through your mouth for a count of 8. Repeat 4 times, if you’re not already asleep by the third round.

10. Leave behind the worries of the day

There is no room in any bed, not even in a California king, for the day’s worries. Try keeping a journal by your bed. Pour out any stress from the day or any anxiety about tomorrow and leave it there. Write it all down until you’ve emptied your mind onto the pages. If you wake up in the middle of the night with a worry, or a reminder pops into your head, reach for the journal, write it down and go back to sleep.

Our best advice we can offer to you is to create a nightly routine that is sacred to you. If you want to sleep like a baby you need to set yourself up for a great night’s sleep just like good mothers do for their little ones. Whether it’s a warm shower, a facial steam, a relaxing yoga routine with some inversions, a mug of warm milk or tea, reading a good book, a hot compress, journaling, aromatherapy or meditation make sure it works for you and puts you in a state of peace and deep relaxation. You deserve it. Sweet dreams.

8 Steps to a Healthier You

1. Hydrate.

Drink up! We could all use more H2O in our lives. Divide your weight (in pounds) in half and that is the number of ounces you should drink each day. This will keep you hydrated without drowning out the nutrients. Squeeze some lemon in your water for added benefits and flavor.

2. Cut back on meat.

Meat is harmful to the environment and rough on your system. It is the hardest thing for your body to digest, and causes you to store more fat. Try ‘Meatless Mondays’ or if you want to take it a step further become a “Weekday Veg”:

3. Fill up on veggies.

At least half your plate should be filled with veggies. Don’t be shy, introduce a variety of vegetables into your diet, and go heavy on the dark leafy greens.

4. Sugar craving? Grab some fruit.

Replace sugary snacks with fruit or sweet veggies. Berries are a low sugar treat that are rich in vitamins and antioxidants. Carrots, beets or butternut squash roasted with a little raw honey and cinnamon make a delicious snack that will be sure to satisfy a sweet tooth.

5. Get moving.

Your body is meant to move. Find unique ways to add some movement into your day: gentle stretching, dancing to your favorite song, a few jumping jacks, walking somewhere instead of driving or simply taking the stairs. Incorporate more intense cardio, yoga or strength training into your routine at least 3 times a week.

6. Have a cold-pressed juice or smoothie everyday.

Cold pressed juice is the best way to get an immediate shot of vitamins, enzymes and nutrients right into your bloodstream, with no effort from your body. Smoothies are excellent sources of fiber which is important for overall health and great for your skin and hair. Add fun superfoods such as cacao, maca, chia seeds or goji berries to them for that extra POW!

7. Laugh.

Laughter really is the best medicine. Stress increases cortisol which leads to cravings, signals the body to store fat and puts you at greater risk of heart disease. So take a deep breath, stop taking life so damn seriously and enjoy a good belly laugh, at least once a day. We recommend more often though.

8. Get a goodnight’s sleep.

Stop underestimating the importance of sleep. We are serious! How much and the quality of sleep you get affects every aspect of your daily life. It’s helpful for stress management, immunity, weight control and your overall health. At least 8 hours a night is recommended. Create a nightly routine that helps you prepare for a deep and rejuvenating sleep and gets you excited for some well-deserved shut eye.

Name: Scott Sisco

Occupation: “I started hauling fish with the commercial fishermen on the dock, now I haul garbage for Mickey’s.”

Location: “I was born in Queens, NY and moved to Montauk in ’85″

This is Why I MJF:

“I’m trying to better myself from where I’ve come from. I tried the juice to more or less experiment with it and to see what it was all about. The first juice I tried was the Dope Beet, now it’s my favorite. I tried it because I knew it was good for my system and my heart. Beets are especially good for your heart. I have tried and experimented with the other flavors and liked them all.”

“As far as eating goes, I don’t eat as much junk food as I used to. I’ve started eating yogurt, fruit and granola. I’m trying to break away from all the crap.”

“The anti-inflammatory juices have helped with my injuries and pain. I injured my shoulder when a dumpster fell off the truck and I tried to grab it. That was 7 years ago. Juicing has been a good thing for my shoulder.”

“The biggest thing for me is less coffee. I’m trying to move off coffee and switch to juice to get me going. All I need is a little Macaccino for my wake up and it’s all good. I’ve gone from 5 cups a day to 1 a day. I’m drinking more juice now and have more energy than before.”

Wild Child Tea

During these cold months your body craves warmth, especially first thing in the morning. The Wild Child is always a refreshing and invigorating jumpstart to your day- whether you’re cleansing or simply looking for a way to stay healthy and energized this winter. We recommend heating up this elixir as the perfect nurturing reset for your body and morning routine.

Savor your mornings with a mug of our Wild Child tea and soak up these amazing benefits:

Filtered H2O: You should start off every morning with water. Your body is detoxifying itself while it’s sleeping so it’s especially important that you hydrate and flush out those toxins.

Lemons: Lemons are alkalizing and help bring balance to your system. They stimulate brain function and are high in pectin fiber which will set you out on the right foot and help fight hunger cravings throughout the day. They also provide a dose of vitamin C, which you can’t get enough of during this time of year.

Wildflower Honey: Honey is loaded with vitamins, minerals and enzymes which protect the body from bacteria, boost the immune system and soothe the throat. It also kickstarts digestion and provides a natural boost of energy.

Cayenne: Cayenne not only clears your sinuses and congestion; but also relieves minor aches that may come from sleeping the wrong way. It gets your blood pumping and revs up your metabolism giving you that “Get Up and Go” attitude. Bonus: it warms you up from the inside out- which is especially needed on those chilly mornings when you may find that simply leaving the comfort of your cozy bed is a struggle.

Embrace the Winter Vibes

“Winter, a lingering season, is a time to gather golden moment, embark on a sentimental journey, and enjoy every idle hour.” – John Boswell

Winter is a beautiful season: a time to retreat a little, focus on yourself and explore your depths. However, sometimes the bitterness of the cold and wind can leave you with less than warm feelings towards winter. That’s why you need to cultivate routines that are meaningful, nurturing and help you get the most out of these months of hibernation. Here are some of our favorite winter rituals that warm your body and soul:

Ginger Lemon Tea

Begin your morning with a warm cup of lemon and ginger tea, an ancient Ayurvedic tradition. It stimulates digestion, alkalizes your body, gives you a boost of energy and will help ward off cold and flus.Add some of our organic cold-pressed Good Good lemon and Ginger Ninja ginger boosters to your next order. Drop a half ounce of each into warm water and you have a delicious and immunity-boosting tea that will warm you up from the inside out.

Bentonite Clay and Facial Steams

Treat yourself to an at-home spa experience with one of our newest obsessions, Bentonite Clay. Bentonite Clay is a detoxifying clay that is very unique due to its ability to produce an “electrical charge” when mixed with liquid. The absorbent clay possesses a strong negative charge which bonds to the positive charge in many toxins, heavy metals and impurities allowing it to absorb and extract them. You can literally feel your skin pulsate from the charges removing the toxins.

Kick off the pampering session by doing a relaxing facial steam. Add a few drops of your favorite essential oils, like eucalyptus, lemongrass or tea tree, to hot (but not boiling) water to unwind and warm up after a long winter day. This will open up your pores, clear your sinuses and relieve any congestion you may have. Relax and breathe in the aromatic steam for about 15 minutes. Then apply your detoxifying mask made up of equal parts Bentonite Clay and water or apple cider vinegar. After 15-20 minutes, wash it off and then it is time for facial steam round two. You will be amazed by how smooth, soft and radiate your skin looks and feels afterwards.

If you really want to soak up the winter vibes, draw a bath and make an evening of it. Light a candle and put on some of your favorite mellow music. Dry brush for 5-10 minutes prior to open up your pores and exfoliate away any rough or dry skin. You can add 1/4 cup of the Bentonite Clay plus a few drops of essential oil to a warm tub to detox and soften your entire body. Dip into this relaxing and rejuvenating bath… and let the worries and the cares of the chilly day melt away.

Give Yourself a Little GLOW (Cleanse)

It’s the perfect cold-pressed combination for this time of the year. It not only protects your hair, skin and nails from the elements but it also helps you stay in fighting form through even the harshest of winter weather. Detox Smoothie

Holiday festivities and New Year cheers-ing got the best of you? Every bit of indulgence was worth it, but now it’s time to get yourself back on track. 2015 is your year! Time to take your health into your own hands. No idea where to begin? No stress- simply show your body love and respect and everything else will fall into place. Incorporating a smoothie into your daily routine is an effective and realistic goal for 2015. To help you with this, we have a super easy detoxifying green smoothie recipe that will flush out the toxins, cleanse your system and nourish your body.

We like to make our smoothies as simple, nutritious and delicious as possible by using an MJF juice as the base. Our cold-pressed raw juices are tasty, satisfying and packed with the most amazing variety of micro-nutrients, enzymes, vitamins and minerals that nature has to offer. This smoothie is made with The Ditch, our detox drink that hydrates, alkalizes and cleanses your body. When you combine The Ditch with the purifying power of fiber-rich leafy greens, you are left with a smoothie that will leave you feeling replenished, rebalanced and ready to tackle all of your resolutions!

Detox Smoothie

  • 1 16oz. The Ditch (celery, green apple, pineapple, coconut water, lemon, burdock root, dandelion root)
  • 2 cups (1 large bunch) organic leafy greens (spinach, parsley, kale or Swiss chard)
  • 1 frozen organic banana or avocado
  • 1 small handful of ice
  • Chia seeds (optional), to garnish

Blend all ingredients together until smooth. Enjoy right away to get the maximum benefits from the nutrients.

*** If your primary focus with green smoothies is cleansing, then it goes without saying that organic fruits and greens should be used for ingredients. You are being counterproductive if you are using fruits and vegetables that have been sprayed with pesticides, herbicides and fungicides!

MJF Inspiration: ‘Tis the Sea Sun

Let’s shine this season. Be yourself. Above all: let who you are, what you are, what you believe shine through every sentence you write, every project you finish and every day you live. ‘Tis the season to embrace warmth, share joy and celebrate what makes us each merry and bright.

MIX RAW: Bonfire Cider

It’s time to break out the decorations, pump up the holiday jams and get into the holiday spirit(s)! We love cheers-ing to everything under the sun with friends, family and festive cocktails- but we’re not so in love with those sugary hangovers. Nobody’s got time for that. That’s why this year we will serving all our cocktails raw and mixing them up with cold pressed goodness.

The spiked Bonfire Cider is clean, cozy and is guaranteed to be the surefire hit of your next party. Made with fresh, local apples and carrots and spiced with cinnamon, ginger, turmeric and cayenne. Kale and Bean NOURISH Soup

Our Green Mama nourishes and takes care of you just like a good mama should. During these cold months, it’s still important to get your daily intake of raw fruits and veggies, but sometimes your body just craves something hot and comforting. Well give your body what it needs. Take some of the nutritious, healing and delicious ingredients that go into the Green Mama and create a soup that will nourish and warm your body and soul.

Kale and Bean NOURISH Soup

1 ½ cup diced onion
2 cloves garlic, minced
1 tbsp minced parsley
1 quart vegetable stock
1 tsp Himalayan sea salt
1 cups celery, diced
4 cups chopped kale
3 cups chopped swiss chard

Mix all the ingredients together and let it cook on high heat for 15-20 minutes.

Dope Beet: High-Performance Fuel

Did anyone else notice the bottles of beet juice at the NYC Marathon or how beet juice is quickly gaining a reputation as the hot new drink for athletes? Beets have extremely cleansing and detoxifying properties, they aid in digestion and are are rich in potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, vitamins A, B & C, beta-carotene, beta-cyanine aaaaand folic acid. Phew, that’s a lot.

But you know what makes beets so dope and worthy of a spot on a Sports Illustrated cover? Their nitrates! Beets are an excellent source of nitrates that the body converts into nitric oxide. Nitric oxide helps with a wide range of functions that will have athletes ditching their sub-par sports drinks, including:

  • Opens blood vessels, lowering blood pressure, and increasing the blood flow throughout the body and to the muscles
  • Helps muscles use oxygen more efficiently, which makes it easier for mitochondria to produce energy
  • Improves stamina and endurance, increases time to exhaustion, and lowers fatigue levels

With all that blood and oxygen pumping throughout your body and that burst of natural and sustainable energy, you will be running at optimal levels and will never skip a beet.

You may be thinking: but, wait, why have I been buying Nitrate-Free bacon for my bacon, egg and cheeses? Well, since the nitrates found in beets are naturally occurring the body is able to convert them into nitric oxide, which as you just read is safe and highly beneficial to the body. The nitrates in bacon, hot dogs and cured meats are not naturally occurring. They are added to them and are dangerous to the body, have cancer-causing potential, and should have you singing Just Beet It. (Last beet pun, I promise!)

Our Dope Beet is made up of the amazing beet, pineapple, parsnips, cucumber and jalapeño. Pineapple adds sweetness and bromelain (a natural inflammation-fighting machine) and parsnips, aka the unsung hero of the root vegetable world, have a wide variety of vitamins, minerals and nutrients. Cucumber is naturally hydrating and is high in vitamin A and vitamin K. We add the little kick of jalapeño to provide a day’s requirement of vitamin C. It also contains an ultra-cool phytochemical capsacian, which has been known to spice up your metabolism. So whether you’re a high-performance athlete, enjoy the occasion spin class or just want to fuel amazing things- grab a Dope Beet and drink up!

Roasted Beet (aka FUCHSIA) Hummus

Don’t buy hummus. There’s no point. You can make your own in just a few minutes. It’s cheaper, healthier, and much more rewarding than buying the packaged stuff at the grocery store. Hummus is a great source of plant protein and fiber. It’s the ultimate snack. I always make my own and I like experimenting with different flavors. The most beautiful of them all is the roasted beet. The beets turn the typically beige dip to this gorgeous fuchsia color. It’s the perfect little dish to bring to a party. Here’s what you need to make it:
2 small beets
2 15 oz cans of cooked organic garbanzo beans
1/4 cup olive oil
2 lemons
sea salt and black pepper to taste
Slice and roast your beets at 350 degrees until soft. combine all the ingredients in a blender or food processor until smooth. Chill in the fridge for like 30 minutes. That’s it. You’re welcome.
(Feel free to add more or less of everything depending on your own personal palate. I like things super bright tasting so you may wanna add a bit less lemon or oil. I also don’t include tahini in this recipe although traditional hummus does call for it. Feel free to use it if you want to, but it’s not a necessity.)

6 Ways to be an Explorer of the World

Always be looking. (Notice the world beneath you.)

Put down the phone. I mean it. Stop looking at pictures of other peoples’ lives and open your eyes to the world around you. We live in this amazing world, full of beauty, mystery and adventure. Stop to take it all in, and enjoy the view.

Consider everything alive and animate.

The world is a lively place. Energy flows through all living things and all that we come in contact with. Feel that energy and connect to the world around you. Your surroundings are communicating with you- listen and respond.

Everything is interesting. Look closer.

You will discover that everyone is interesting if you ask the right questions, and everything is interesting if you approach it from the right angle. Change up the way you percieve the world. Look at everything as if it’s the first time you were seeing it- find new meanings in things.

Alter your course often.

Take a new route, wander, get lost, discover new territory, embrace the unknown. Fill yourself with new colors, sounds, sights, emotions.

Observe for long durations. (And short ones.)

Pay attention to what is happening around you. Observe people, nature, movement- use all your senses, notice patterns, and make connections. You may be surprised by what you discover.

Notice the stories going on around you.

Everyone has a story. You are constantly surrounded by people living lives just as vivid and complex as yours- made up of their own relationships, goals, drama, routines, fears, and quirks- an epic story that coincides with your own brilliant story.

Guilt-Free Pumpkin Spice Latte

We always looked forward to Pumpkin Spice Lattes just like everybody else, but after reading from
@thefoodbabe on what actually goes into them we were shocked- and super inspired to make our own healthier version. We made a guilt free version of the fall favorite and here are the main differences:
* No artificial colors. PSL ingredients include Caramel Color Level IV which is a made with ammonia and is considered a dangerous carcinogen. Not awesome.
* No dairy. Starbucks uses Monsanto milk which feeds genetically modified corn, soy and cottonseed to their cows. We use pumpkin seed mylk, which is rich in minerals and antioxidants!
* No added sugar. Order up a Grande and you’ll be ordering over 50 grams of sugar! And not even good sugar – Pumpkin Spice lattes are made with corn syrup and high fructose corn syrup. And lots of it! We sweeten with medjool dates and add spices to flavor ours.
* No pesticides. We use only organic coffee and use cold brew method to reduce the acidity.
No more mystery syrups or science experiments in your coffee cup. Enjoy our cozy and clean fall treat that will make you feel as good as it tastes! Cheers!

Fall in Love with MJF

Fall is for cozy sweaters, your favorite flannel, cider, hay rides, carving pumpkins, jumping in leaf piles (you never get too old for that), candied apples, football season, and yes of course all things pumpkin spiced, and now we are giving you one more thing to fall in love with- our new autumn recipes!

Smashing Pumpkin

(We have pumped up the pumpkin….)

Pumpkin, butternut squash, coconut milk, spinach, hemp protein, flax seeds, dates, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves

Superfood Ingredient Spotlight:

Hay there Gourdgeous, check out that sexy hourglass shape! Yeah we’re talking to you butternut squash. Not only is this savory autumnal favorite sure to satisfy those hankerings for pie, but it is loaded with health benefits!

* Low in fat, high in fiber, an excellent combo that fills you up, but not out. (Just because it’s sweater weather doesn’t mean you don’t want to maintain that beach bod)

* Its vibrant orange hue is an indication of its beta-carotene, which your body automatically converts to vitamin A. Vitamin A helps keep your eyes sharp and sparkling. It also gives your skin that autumn glow, because everyone knows a summer glow is so last season.

* Butternut squash is also high in Vitamin C and antioxidants making it anti-inflammatory, excellent for your immune system, and will leave you singing “Build me up butternut!”

Bonfire Cider</h3>
(We are be-cider selves with excitement about this drink!)

Carrot, green apple, apple cider vinegar, ginger, turmeric, cinnamon, cayenne, raw honey

Superfood Ingredient Spotlight:

Apple Cider Vinegar or ACV as the cool kids refer to it, is one powerhouse of benefits and we got your daily dose right here.

* Bacteria butt-kicking abilities. Helps kill those pathogens, relieve sore throats, and upper respiratory infections and keep that immune system in tip top shape to get you through cold and flu season in fighting form.

* Alkalizing powers. Vinegar has an alkalizing effect on the body which helps your body absorb more vital minerals from the food you eat, while slowing down the absorption of sugar.

* Aids in digestion: AVC naturally produces hydrochloric acid which helps your body properly break down food. It also serves as a cleanser and healer for your digestive systems due to its high probiotic content and natural acidity.

Pumpkin Spice</h3>
(This isn’t your basic seasonal spiced drink!)

Cold brew coffee, filtered water, pumpkin seeds, vanilla, dates, himalayan salt, pumpkin pie spice.

Superfood Ingredient Spotlight:

Trade in your sunflower seeds for pumpkin seeds now that fall has arrived. They are rich in minerals and have a diverse mix of antioxidants.

* Magnesium: Pumpkin seeds are high in the heart-healing mineral magnesium which is important for a variety of vital physiological functions.
* Zinc: Zinc is beneficial to immunity, can help elevate you senses, improve mental functions and memory retention, and boost your energy levels– taking this pick up treat to new heights, with no tricks- just raw goodness, straight up!

* Vitamin E: Vitamin E isn’t just heart healthy, but it’s great for your skin, giving you that Autumn glow which is all the rage these days.

Purely Pumpkin Recipe

OK. Now it’s fall. Summer’s over… and for me that’s hard to swallow.  Crisp fall weather is lovely but I still get that melancholy “I know I have to go back to school” feeling in September even though it’s been years since I was in school. I dread the cold and I know it’s coming.  So to cope I listen to a ton of Elliott Smith and focus on the positive: Food.  Cold weather produce is amazing.  I love rustic fruit and root vegetables. Fall means hot drinks, soups, and pies… and those are a few things I can really get down with.  This whole pumpkin spice craze is a little nuts, but I do see where everyone is coming from.Pumpkin is a pretty spectacular food.  It’s probably the most versitile one I’ve ever met.  It’s delicate taste is somewhere between sweet and savory and it compliments a bunch of other flavors.  This recipe is no nonsense, stripped down Pumpkin.  It’s simple and pure and will have you welcoming fall with open arms.

Slice a kabocha squash (Japanese pumpkin) and lay it out on a baking sheet.  Add chopped shallot and a few roughly chopped red onions and dress it with olive oil and sea salt.  Bake it at 350 until pumpkin starts to lightly brown.

In a large mixing bowl, combine field greens, the juice of one lemon, olive oil, black pepper, and herbamare. Toast one cup of sunflower seeds in the toaster oven in foil (keep an eye on these little guys.. they burn quickly!)  Mix seeds with greens and after plating the mixture top it with the pumpkin and onion.  Really simple.  Really good.

Sprout Season

Sprout Season

Summer isn’t over, you guys.  Not until September 22.  It’s 90 degrees in Brooklyn today and even the walls of my apartment are sweating.  So cool it with all the pumpkin spice hashtags.  We still have plenty of time before the cold comes.  It’s September, and although Brussels Sprouts can be grown pretty much year round, their growing peak in New York starts now.  So get to your local farmer’s market and pick up a bunch of these little vitamin K rich cuties because I have the perfect vegan side dish for you to make:

Cut Brussels in halves and place them on a baking sheet with chopped red onion, olive oil, sea salt, and black pepper.  Roast at 350 until sprouts are crispy. Remove from oven and place in mixing bowl.  In separate bowl, thoroughly mix the juice of one lemon, a dash of balsamic vinegar, and a table spoon of dijon mustard.  Pour mixture over Brussels Sprouts and stir until all of them are coated with the dressing.

It’s a really versatile dish that can be served along side almost anything.  I love making it an entree by putting them on a bed of arugula or spinach and adding toasted walnuts or tempeh for protein.  Buying locally and eating seasonally makes for a happy body and a happy mind all year round.  So  happy September, everyone… enjoy your sprout season!

MJF Loves Kayaking

Kayaking around the lake has quickly grown to be my new favorite part of my daily routine. It becomes a meditative experience as I drift away and allow my mind to wander. I bask in the beauty of mother nature and count my blessings. I am so grateful to be living in a such a breathtaking and magical place, filled with wonderfully delightful and unique characters, who I get to help live cleaner, healthier, and fuller lives. It is important for all of us to take the time out of our busy schedules to just stop, sit back, and take it all in from time to time. That’s what my kayak rides are about, taking it all in, and remember that life is good and that I am beyond blessed.

The Liquid Sunshine (orange, pineapple, coconut water, aloe vera, lemon, ginger, and turmeric) is one of our favorite juices. It leaves you feeling refreshed and gives you an undeniable glow

Here are some of my other favorite ways to get my glow on!

*A simple DIY Glow mask that consists of only two ingredients: 2 tsp of  lemon juice + 2 tsp of honey. Honey has antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties which helps clear impurities from your pores, while softening your skin. Lemon acts as a natural exfoliant and brightener.

*Eating avocados! . That’s right just pay the extra cost for guacamole. The high content of omega-3 helps to create a glowing complexion by reducing inflammation, promotion of cell growth, and controls the oils in your body. Toss them in a salad, throw a few slices on a sandwich, put some in your omelette, spread on your toast instead of butter, mix into a smoothie to make it a little creamier or grab a spoon and eat it as is.

*Running! Sweating helps expel all the dirt and oil that is trapped in your pores, giving you that post-workout glow. Just make sure to wash your face after so all that dirt and oil doesn’t get sucked back into your pores.

*Positive Thinking. “If you have good thoughts, they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely” -Roald Dahl. Positive people always seem more radiant

Go get your shine on!

The Power of the Mermaid Pose

It’s no secret that MJF supports strong, badass and empowering females aka MJFmermaids. What better way to get in touch with your inner mermaid goddess than practicing the powerful and invigorating mermaid yoga pose.

The mermaid pose is an advanced version of pigeon pose, so only attempt it if you are comfortable with pigeon.

This enlivening pose will challenge your balance as you open your hips and quad muscles while stretching your back into a beautiful arch. Find strength in your core and pelvic floor, and feel an exhilarating freedom from the waist up as you open up your chest, shoulders, and heart.

After you have allowed yourself to soak up the vibrational energy that comes from this pose and feel the stimulation in your abdominal organs, relax in Savasana and imagine you are floating through the salt water like a mermaid.

5 bananas

1 cup raw cacao powder

Coconut flakes (optional)

Almond slivers (optional)

Combine your bananas, cacao powder, and almond or coconut milk in a blender and mix until smooth. You can also sprinkle some of these into your empty ice pop mold – when the pops are done, the add-ons will show up right on top! Pour your mixture into ice pop molds and freeze a few hours or overnight. This will make about 10-15 pops, depending on the size of your mold.

All Good Things Are Wild And Free

At MJF, we are diehard beach bums. Cold, hot, overcast, pouring rain: there is something renewing and spiritual about being at the beach. Usually because it means you are stopping to enjoy life. Part of MJF life is taking breaks to take it all in.

We spent a day collecting treasures, soaking up the salty air and reveling in the art of doing nothing but enjoying Mother Nature. Yes, please believe, salty air and sand beneath your toes is epic and therapeutic: but, even if you don’t live close to the ocean taking some time to enjoy something that costs nothing is a powerful thing. Feeling the warm breeze on your face, sitting on a park bench, dipping your toes in a pond, stopping to look up from your phone and soak up the sun, or observing the clouds like you’re seeing them for the first time. These are things that ground you and make you take pause and remind you how good it is to simply be alive.

Testing the wind. Ummmm, let’s see. Yup, it’s every which direction.

Montauk rocks.
